Leeta Nistel Obituary

Leeta Nistel

Leeta Nistel, age 92, passed away in the early morning of August 23, 2023. Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother Extraordinaire. We have been blessed to experience what she provided to our family. She was a remarkable homemaker. She provided wise counsel whether raising a family or building a business. Fiercely loyal. Always wanting everyone to get along. Always a lady, with an amazing capacity to forgive and move on. And determined to see the good in people and situations. Maybe this explains her great enjoyment of westerns-the good guy always won.

In addition to caring lovingly and patiently for family, Leeta enjoyed and nurtured many friendships. Due to her special warmth and genuine interest in others, acquaintances soon became dear friends. She went out of her way to ensure others were comfortable and cared for with an intelligence, depth of awareness, humility, kindness, and selflessness displayed by few others. When the question arose as to why she was jumping so intensely into action mode, no matter the level of the challenge required to accomplish the task, the answer always was, "because that's just what she does!" What she did was so very much, positively impacting so many fortunate to know her. So many of us can count ourselves grateful for all she did and the way she did it with integrity and class.

She was organized. Very organized! She was committed to efficiency. Whether planning holiday meals, caring for the household or scheduling her golf group matches, Leeta organized in detail.

Volleyball, tennis, golf, reading novels, mahjong, crosswords, travel and playing the piano were some of her activities and interests. Leeta was a member of Congregation B'nai Israel and Hadassah.

Throughout her life she was intent on performing acts of kindness. Please take the opportunity to do a random act of kindness and remember her fondly when doing so.

Surviving are husband of 72 years, Harry; sons, Barry (Amy), Jeff; and daughter, Eileen; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Leeta was predeceased by her parents, Ben and Celia Harris; and sister, Rhoda Rosen.

Per her request services will be held graveside at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, August 27, at Beth Shalom Cemetery, Oregon, Ohio. A meal of condolence and visitation will be held at Temple Shomer Emunim, Sylvania, Ohio, immediately following the service.

Memorial contributions may be considered to Read For Literacy, Congregation B'nai Israel or charity of the donor's choice.

I can't believe that a year has passed already. And a lot has changed.but I don't have to tell you that. Because Miss Leeta you have a front row seat. Some are going to think I'm a crazy for talking to you like your still with us. But since I never had the pleasure of meeting this extraordinary woman that touched so many lives I will rely on the very kind remarks of other people. Sandra Grohnke

I always have fond memories of seeing the family as a kid and Leeta's birthday cards. Until recently, never could figure why sending them were worthwhile. She thought about others and much appreciated. Can learn a lot from that.

As I write this message of condolence the only thing I'm thinking of is myself and what I missed in my life by not knowing this treasure of a woman. But I have had the pleasure of knowing her son Barry and his adorable wife Amy. Barry is kind, considerate, always has a warm smile on his face and never forgets my name which always makes me smile. These are qualities that are taught and learned. By Leeta his mother of blessed memory. Kindness attracts other people that are kind like Amy. I will always have a special place in my heart for her. Amy was there for me when my own mother passed and helped me with Shiva.
