Loy Rusie Obituary
Loy E.
Loy E. Rusie, former long-time Toledo resident and business owner passed away, Wednesday, September 12, 2012, in Pittsburgh, PA after a long struggle with vascular dementia. He was the son of former Libbey High School principal Loy W. Rusie and Bernice Long. Loy graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1947.
Loy and his wife, Sally, moved to Pittsburgh about three years ago to be close to their daughter and granddaughters. Loy owned Alexis Pet Shop in the Trilby area for close to 20 years and was well-known as the "fish man." Earlier in his working life he owned a Marathon gas station at the corner of Detroit and Arlington.
He loved to boat and fish in Lake Erie and enjoyed family trips to a fishing lodge in Canada. More recently he enjoyed several family vacations on the Outer Banks. He adored his granddaughters and a highlight of his life was the trip to Disney World with the girls. Loy was a gentle, loving man who was always there for family and friends. He volunteered many years for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Pamela Taynor (David), Pittsburgh; son, Stephen Rusie (Susan), Louisville, KY, and granddaughters, Kristy and Michelle Taynor.
Visitation will be held at Sperling Funeral Home, 700 Blazier Drive, Wexford, PA 15090, on Sunday, September 16, 2012, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with services on Monday at 9:00 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held in Toledo in the spring. The family requests that any donations be made to the JDRF of Northwest Ohio, 4041 West Sylvania Ave. LL6 Toledo, Ohio 43623 or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
