M. Eagles Obituary
Sister M. Alicia OSF 1919-2016
Sister M. Alicia Eagles died on January 6, 2016, at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio. Born December 13, 1919, Sister was the daughter of Casimir and Sophie Eagles who were faithful parishioners of the former Nativity Parish in Toledo, Ohio. Sister Alicia and her twin sister, Sister Lenore, entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1935 and professed their vows in 1940. Sister earned a B.A., B.S.E. and M.A. degree from the former Mary Manse College in Toledo. She taught in elementary schools in Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio for 41 years, 25 of them at six schools in the Toledo area, and was a substitute teacher for 10 years.
Sister Alicia and her twin sister cared for their mother and sister, Mary, in the family home for 10 years. After their mother's death, they continued to care for Mary until they were no longer able to do so. In 2008, they moved to Rosary Care Center at the Motherhouse and Mary moved to the Franciscan Care Center, not far away, where they visited her as often as possible until her death. Sister Alicia took her Third Age Ministry of Prayer very seriously, and prayed for the needs of the community, the church and the world in her daily prayers. Sister Alicia gave generously of her time and talent for 75 years as a consecrated religious woman. She will be dearly missed by her Sisters in community, especially her twin sister, Sister Lenore, and her caregivers at Rosary Care Center.
There will be a Welcoming Service for Sister Alicia in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. The funeral liturgy will be at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, preceded by visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the Mass. Interment will be in Porta Coeli Cemetery on the campus of the Sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
