M. Zigment Obituary

ZIGMENT Sister M. Alma, OSF 1916-2011 Sister M. Alma Zigment, died on November 20, 2011, at Rosary Care Center. The former Catherine Zigment was born to John and Agatha Zigment on December 30, 1916, in Duluth, Minnesota. She came to Sylvania to be a Sister of St. Francis on June 28, 1930. She professed her first vows on August 17, 1936, and made her final profession on August 17, 1939. She celebrated her 75th Anniversary as a Sylvania Franciscan in June of this year. Sister Alma was a teacher for all of her religious life. She was prepared for her teaching role with a B.A. degree from St. Teresa College in Winona, Minnesota and a M.A. degree from Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio. For 40 years Sister Alma taught in Catholic elementary schools in Sylvania, Fremont, Toledo, and Bowling Green, Ohio; in Detroit, Michigan, and in St. Paul, Minneapolis and Wells, Minnesota. She did catechetical work for one year in Liberty, Texas. She tutored for 14 years in schools in Minneapolis and Toledo, and when she came to live at Rosary Care Center in 1992, she assisted in the Teachers' Center located on the Sylvania campus. For all those who knew her, Sister Alma will be remembered for her lovely smile, her peaceful ways, her skill at tatting and her many stories about her life experiences. She was a model and mentor for many teachers and her Sisters in community. Her caregivers at Rosary Care Center in her later years will remember her for her gratitude and appreciation for all that they did for her and for the gracious way she accepted her physical burdens and their help. Sister Alma will be missed by her Sisters in community and her loving family and friends. Sister Alma will be welcomed home at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011, in a special ceremony in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse in the Sylvania Franciscan Village on Convent Blvd. in Sylvania, Ohio. Visitors are welcome. Viewing will be held until 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2011. Donations and memorials may be sent to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio. Arrangements made by Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, Toledo, Ohio.
