Marie Wandscher Obituary

WANDSCHER Marie J.F. Marie J.F. Wandscher (Oma Mikki) passed away peacefully early Tuesday, August 26, 2009. God claimed another prize rose from His garden! Through the thorny bushes of life, regardless of the circumstances that were placed before her or the people that crossed her path, the sweet beautiful fragrance of love and acceptance and her beauty of respect and compassion shined! No one was turned away without the offer of "Can I do something for you" nor was one ever treated with disrespect or judged because they looked or acted different than what was considered the "norm". Her life was lived not for personal gain, but one of acceptance of the circumstance and what she could do that might make it easier for those she came in contact with. She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Marie was born on February 9, 1923 in Oldenburg, Germany to Anton and Gesine (Ramke) Saathoff. She married Georg H.P. Wandscher on September 21, 1946. They had 3 children, Helmtrud, Liselotte and Herbert. The family immigrated to the United States on April 11, 1958. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband, her daughter Helm and son-in-law Mark Byrne, and step son-in-law Erich Mueller. Marie is survived by her children Lise Hartman and Herb Wandscher, grandchildren Eden Byrne, Jada Byrne, Jorden Kass, Ian Kass and Troy Kass. As well as a sister, Helma Thon survives in Germany. She is also survived by her step son Hans (Regina) Wandscher and their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and her step daughter Ingeborg (Erich,d) Mueller and their children and grandchildren. Mom was an excellent seamstress, knitter and loved to do needlepoint. She was an avid reader and always had beautiful and well tended gardens. She especially loved her roses. She was always active in the American Turner Society, the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Turners and the German American Festival Society. She was a long standing member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, of Toledo. In lieu of flowers the family would request donations to either, Swanton Valley Health Care, 401 W. Airport Hwy., Swanton, OH or Fulton County Meals on Wheels c/o Fulton County Senior Programs, 240 Clinton St., Wauseon, OH. We would like to offer our sincere thanks for the exceptional care our mom received from the staff of Swanton Valley Health Care, as well as, the service provided by Meals on Wheels. Visitation will be Monday, August 31, 2009 from 2-8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4150 W. Laskey Rd. (419-473-0300). Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 1, 2009 beginning at 10:30 a.m. To leave a special message for Marie's Family, please visit: www.NewcomerToledo.com

To Lise, Herb and all of the Wandscher family,

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your mom. I am so very sorry--and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I knew Helmtrud, graduating in the same class as she did. I know this must be hard for you all.

Oma is the most beautiful woman I have ever met, so much love to share. She was the most openhearted gentle soul who touched the lives of so many people with her kind spirited love that she shared so freely; which she never seemed to doubt sharing in any way.
She cared for Jada and I in so many ways, so many unbelievable amazing ways. One woman, one soul gave this much. It is her who taught me no matter how much is taken from you in this life you still have the strength, the love, the openness to continue to open your heart up and love and share our own heart. “Life isn’t always fair,” is what Oma used to say. People are taken from us and we hurt in ways that one can only imagine. Oma taught me that we still have a life to build, and while still remembering and loving those we lost, we continue to build our lives, share our lives with those around us and that this is the most important accomplishment in life and Oma achieved this and more.
