Mark Gallagher Obituary

Dr. Mark Dennis Gallagher

On Friday, May 17th, 2019, Doctor Mark Dennis Gallagher, 62, of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.

Mark was born on November 19, 1956 to Thomas Payson and Martha Jane (Rathbun) Gallagher. Mark was the youngest of four boys. He was a proud native of Toledo. He attended Central Catholic High School (Class of '74), where he was affectionately known as Muga and All-American captain of the football team. It was there that he met the love of his life, Nil (Yetis) Gallagher. They were married on August 16, 1980. They were blessed with 3 daughters and 28 dogs. Mark attended Toledo University for undergrad and continued on to the Medical College of Ohio. In over 30 years as a practicing internist, he served thousands of patients and cherished each one of them. He was a devoted son, husband, father, brother, and friend--- and he delighted in his newest role as "Papa."

Mark loved the water and being outdoors. He especially loved spending time with his family on his Lyman. Mark enjoyed vacationing in the Florida Keys, his herd of deer, bird watching, old cars, and good music. He was known for his sense of humor, strength of character and his fierce sense of loyalty.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Edward (Carol) and Warner (Jewell) Gallagher. He is survived by his wife, Nil, of nearly 40 years; his three daughters Kelly (Brad) Rucki, Erin (Stephen) Hart, and Megan Gallagher; grandchildren Maizey, Maddie and Mark Rucki and Fitzgerald and Lilly Grace Hart; his brother David (Laurita) Gallagher; many nieces and nephews that he loved greatly; and four dogs Snickers, Abu, Oreo and Duke.

Mark's family would like to thank all of the doctors, family, friends, patients and especially the nurses at Ebeid Hospice for their care and support during the course of his illness.

Family will receive guests on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr Street, with a rosary service at 7:30pm. His funeral will be held at Corpus Christi on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 1:30pm. There will be a private burial.

My sincere condolences to Dr. Gallagher's dear wife, daughters, beloved grandkids, and his many cherished friends and patients. I was blessed to know this awesome physician when I worked at Toledo Hospital several years ago. He always was kind, caring, exceptionally skilled and very well-respected. May you each be comforted to know he is now with the greatest healer of all; his Earthly mission done, his legacy rich and evergreen to nurture your hearts. Sending prayers, Nil and family, that your great sorrow is soon replaced by the fondest recollections and funniest memories of this bright soul.

I just learned of dear Doctor Gallagher's passing to Heaven. No more suffering and pain . He was my physician for 10 + years. I always. Looked forward to my appts. with him. So kind, thorough and funny. He always had a quip or two that left me in stitches. One day I told him I lost 4 lbs. He replied,"where did you lose them? Out in the parking lot?" Dr. Mark Gallagher will be missed by all who knew and loved him. What a guy!

Our sympathy to the Gallagher family in the loss of such a great man. Through our friendship with his daughter Erin, it was easy to see how much she adored her father. While there is a much greater purpose for his life now, he leaves behind a wonderful legacy and many memories we hope his family will find great comfort in. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family.

I worked with Dr. Gallagher at St. V's and St. Anne's. I also became a patient of his. Truly dedicated to the health and well being of others. Very kind and compassionate. He was top notch which is hard to come by these days. Hoping time will give you the strength and energy to heal from such a loss. My prayers are with all of you.

I was a patient of Dr. Gallagher for many years. I met him through my ex-husband and he took me on as his patient. We laughed and talked about vacationing and softball. He was such a caring man. It sadden my spirit when I received his letter that he would be working part-time and later received another letter that he would no longer be practicing medicine due to health issues but I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to be in his presence and to have known him for over 15 years. Dr. Gallagher will be greatly missed. So I say to the family "be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might."

I was a patient of Dr Gallagher's for years. I'am also a Respiratory Therapist at Toledo Hospital. I would see him at work in the halls and in his office. He would never be rushed with myself or any of his patients. He took his time and listened. I've worked with lots of doctors. You can tell which ones really care. Which ones really have the skills. Which ones really treat people like a member of the family. Dr Gallagher performed all of the above and more. I like everyone, will miss him as my doctor and a person. I remember I was in his office once and I said " I stepped on a rusty nail that went through my shoe" He replied " Well why did you do that?" That was Dr Gallagher. Thoughts and prayers to all.

The world has lost a wonderful human being that also exemplified everything a physician could be. I was fortunate to be one of his patients many years ago and have never forgotten the kindness and compassion he possessed. God bless his soul.

My husband and I were looking for a new PCP years ago. My father who has since passed away, told me "I've got a great Doctor for you and I've been with him for years!" So grateful for taking his advice and we couldn't have asked for a more caring human being then Dr. Gallagher. Somehow he always made me laugh at every appt. with him. God Bless him and his family.

Condolences to the Gallagher family. I worked with Dr. Gallagher for several years while working at ProMedica Flower Hospital. Know that this remarkable man will be greatly missed. His love for his patients, peers and staff was always evident in every interaction. As an RN I've worked with many physicians, but know that your husband/father touched many lives in many special ways, and was a "one of a kind" man/physician. Peace and love to his family and friends at this most difficult time!

A very passionate doctor. I remember shortly after he became my doctor i was at pacesetter park taking my daughter to soccer and he stopped and told me "you have a flat tire". He changed my tire for me. Wow i thought thats a great doctor! I saw him one day at toledo hospital when he was doing his rounds. My mom was in the hospital and she didnt have a doctor so they assigned her a hospitalist. It was divine intervention. He agreed to see her. She eventually passed away through hospice. He was awesome as it was a hard time for my family!
