Mary Elaine Swope, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Ravenna, Michigan, on February 18, 2025.

Mary was born in 1935 in Toledo, Ohio, the sixth of twelve children. A devoted mother, grandmother, and sister, she dedicated her life to caring for her family and serving others. She was a compassionate and giving person, volunteering as a Girl Scout leader for children with special needs and working in a group home for adults with special needs. Her kindness and dedication left a lasting impact on many lives.

Mary is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cheryl Hoyt and her husband, Steve, and Brenda Dehart; her daughter-in-law, Darcy Swope; her siblings, Linda Hartman, Carol Kobach, Wilma Blankenship, and John Hartman; and her cherished grandchildren, Glade Swope, Anthony Hoyt and his wife, Bella, Felix Hoyt, Shayla Hoyt, Chrystal van de Boogaard and her husband, Shane, Heather Robinson and her husband, Joe, Jonathon Dehart and his wife, Kim, Michael Mol and his wife, Dagny, and Phoenix Swope and her wife, Andromeda. She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren, Coda, Austin James, Serena, Jaiden, Ada, and Pascal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Ethel (Schiffer) Hartman; her son, Eugene W. Swope; her sisters, Virginia Cairl, Lois Johnson, Joanne Weinstock, and Leslie Spencer; and her brothers, Richard Hartman, Charles Hartman, and an infant baby brother.

In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held.

Mary's kindness, strength, and love will forever be remembered by those who knew and cherished her.
