Matthew James Szymanski
Matthew James Szymanski of Toledo died unexpectedly on March 28, 2021. He was born in Toledo to the late Philip and Ruth Szymanski.
Matthew graduated from St. John's High School and the University of Toledo. He earned his Master's degree in Engineering from The Ohio State University. He was an industrial engineering specialist, plant launch support with crank machine specialty at Stellantis/Fiat Chrysler Automobiles for nine years. From his supervisor: "Matt was very talented and will be missed at work as an employee and more as a friend. From Matt's immediate boss: "People would ask for his input, for his knowledge. He would challenge me on things, and I appreciated that as hard as that is sometimes to accept. He was well-respected by his peers. I had people ask for him directly by name, and that is always good when you hear that. Matt did fantastic work and was dedicated to his profession. "
Gregarious, enthusiastic, and thoughtful, Matthew loved being with people. He went out of his way to help others feel they were included and appreciated. He particularly enjoyed golfing and was a longtime member of South Toledo Golf Club where he participated in the Thursday night Men's League and the South Toledo Golf Club regulars known as "The Crick".
Matthew cherished his annual trip to Egypt Valley Country Club in Michigan to golf with his classmates. He also loved the water and spending time on the beach with his daughter and was a skilled made-from-scratch cook known for his amazing chili and French Onion soups.
Matthew possessed a classic engineer's problem-solving mind, always attempting to find a better way to fix things. He also liked to study the stock market and discuss investment strategies. Matthew was, first and foremost, dedicated to his family, finding his greatest joy in sharing time with his loved ones. He will be affectionately remembered by his family for his playful antagonizing and genuine goodness and love.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Linda; daughter, Katharine; stepsons, Jason (Laura) and Lane (Allison) Jesseph; grandchildren, Emily, Sarah, Gregory, and Marley; siblings, Mark (Debbie) Szymanski, Laura Kaczmarek, Jacqueline (Jeff) Jarvis, Michael Szymanski, and Nicholas (Amy) Szymanski; and sister-in-law, Sandra Szymanski. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Stephen (Katie) Szymanski, Scott Szymanski, Melissa Kaczmarek, Christine Kaczmarek-White; and special great niece, Angel.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Philip Szymanski.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where a sharing of memories will be held at 7:30 p.m. Matthew's funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E.
