Michael Commisso Obituary

Michael Todd Commisso

August 7, 1967 - March 13, 2024

The heavens are alive with the sound of a piano and the setting is more beautifully appointed than ever before because Michael Todd Commisso is there. Todd, of Perrysburg, Ohio, died under Hospice care on Wednesday morning, March 13, 2024, after a short battle with cancer.

Todd was born in Ft. Wayne, on August 7, 1967, and was raised by his parents, Francis "Frank" John and Jennifer "Jill" Flood Commisso. Todd graduated from Defiance High School and attended Owen's Community College.

Todd grew up with his sister, Kimberly, and his brother, Ross, spending summers at his adored grandmother Mauzie's lake cottage where he loved to water ski. As a youth, his Mother recognized his aptitude for the piano and that he could play by ear. Todd also began gardening as a youth and both piano and gardening continued to be life-long passions. Many evenings were spent around the piano with a vase of beautiful roses from his garden.

Todd was working at the Drapery Shop in Defiance when he met Bruce Roberts, a nationally recognized designer and decorator who saw the promise and talent in the young Todd, hired him to work at Bruce Roberts Interiors and The Tame Dandelion and he moved to Toledo. With Bruce's mentorship, Todd thrived and found his own style. As Bruce aged, Todd came into his own and he ultimately purchased Bruce Roberts Interiors in 2007. Dorothy Yager and Bruce Roberts both worked with Todd until their deaths. Todd would say he learned from the best while honing his own exquisite style. Todd's work was transformative and can be seen in lovely homes across the country. Todd's clients became his close friends and he not only doted on them he truly cared for them.

Todd's creativity helped fundraisers for the Toledo Area Humane Society and the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, be some of the most fun and profitable and with his involvement everyone wanted to help and be on his team! A great time was had by all.

Todd was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Catherine "Mauzie" McDonald, Ann Commisso, and Elizabeth Biberstine. Todd is survived by his mother, Jill Froelich; father, Frank Commisso; sister, Kimberly Ryan; brother, Christopher "Ross" Commisso; nieces, Brenna Contreraz, Madison Ryan; nephews, Jeremy Commisso, Tarron Commisso, and Mason Commisso; and seven great-nieces and nephews.

Todd's family would like to thank The Lakes of Monclova and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their loving care in Todd's final weeks. Also deserving great thanks is Jean Messner who held everything together and managed Todd's affairs so he could rest in peace.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at Carranor Hunt and Polo Club on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Todd's honor to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, The Toledo Area Humane Society, The Arts Commission of Great Toledo, or to the charity of the donors choice.

For all of us who knew and loved Todd, his passing is hard to fathom and he will be remembered with a smile and greatly missed.

So sad about his death at such a young age. Thankfully we all have memories of this unique young man. When he and sister Kim would come stay with his Grandma Lib and Grandpa Ralph Biberstine it was always fun for me. My favorite story to tell was when he went to cut down trees with my dad. Todd was around 7 or 8. Claims he only got on apple for lunch. Of course he was horrified. Todd was quite a storyteller. When I got married he was my handsome little ring bearer. He got so excited he fainted. He would stay with me sometimes. Ice skating, water balloons, fireworks. Lots of memories forever in my heart. Aunt Susan

Rest in Peace Todd, I know Grandpa and Grandma Biberstine, Mike & Tom were waiting with open arms. Always will remember you at Grandma's harvest table.

Dear Family,
With deepest regrets to you all. We got to know & appreciate Todd through his decorating ideas for our home. So many great stories he would share & what a character.
Peace to you all.

I´m saddened to hear this news. I knew Todd and we had become fast friends many years ago. We had gotten out of touch some time ago, but the memories will last. We had a lot of fun in those days and I still miss that. May he rest well.

My heart aches with Todd's passing but thankful he did not suffer for a long period of time. I went to high school with Todd and have many great memories during and after high school. He was my partner in crime on a few occasions and was also by my side when I started contractions with my daughter ... if you know Todd that is not where he wanted to be but stayed until my parents arrived. I will miss him dearly
