Pauline Pypno Obituary

Pauline Pypno

April 20, 1929 - October 23, 2022

Pauline Pypno, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 23, 2022.

Pauline was born on April 20, 1929, in Ebbenweiler, Germany, the daughter of Anton and Theresia (Reinhardt) Wolfle. During WWII, Theresia was not recognized as a citizen of the Third Reich, and was forced to hide with Pauline and her 5 siblings at various farms within the German Alps until the war ended. Pauline met Eugene Pypno, who had been captured fighting in the Polish underground, in a relocation camp near Stuttgart. On December 2, 1950, they were married in Stuttgart, Germany. In 1952, Pauline and Eugene immigrated to the United States, eventually settling in Toledo, OH, where they raised their two children, David and Kris.

She had a zest for life and loved spending time with family and friends. Pauline worked as a cafeteria worker/cashier for the Sylvania School System, from which she retired in 1997. In 1997, Pauline and Eugene moved to Carleton, Michigan to be closer and care for their grandchildren.

Pauline is survived by her daughter, Kristine (John) Griffith; daughter-in-law, Laura Pypno; grandchildren, Andrew Pypno, Joshua, Kate, Jacob and James Griffith, and Pam (Jason) Waterman; sister, Rese Velvelt; brother, Hans Wolfle. She was preceded in death by Eugene; and her son, David.

Both Pauline and Eugene credited the US Military for saving their lives, so in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Carleton VFW Post 4093. Visitation October 28th, 1-5 p.m. with Service 5 p.m., at Bobcean Funeral Home, Carleton Chapel.
