Peggy Thompson Obituary

Peggy Ellen Thompson of Toledo, age 59, loving wife and mother, went home to be with the Lord on April 3, 2006, at her home in Lantana, Florida, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and friends and under hospice care. Peggy was born on February 17, 1947, in Toledo, Ohio. She was the second daughter of Howard and Loueen (Merillat) Rupp.
In 1995, Peggy married Bruce Gene Thompson of Toledo. They shared many loving years together until Bruce's death November 24, 2005. After Bruce's passing, Peggy relocated to their Florida home to be near her daughter, Corrie and grandchildren.
Peggy was a graduate of Swanton High School in 1965. After graduating high school her English teacher got Peggy her first job at the Swanton Enterprise. Peggy then went into advertising at the Toledo Blade. Her love of writing carried her into a career as advertising manager at The Andersons in Maumee for the next 20 years, until her retirement in 1996.
Peggy was an active member, along with her husband, of Cornerstone Church in Maumee. There they both mentored and inspired a generation of young people. Peggy was very active in the church as well as her community. She focused mainly on women's and children's issues. From her contributions to the Sparrows nest, hours of volunteering, to her commitment to missions, both local and abroad, to community outreach programs at Cornerstone Church. Peggy and Bruce strived to make a difference in the lives of those in need. At times they were even known to move families into their home for a time of restoration, and to adopt families by blessing them abundantly. They gave people hope and helped people live their dreams, always encouraging people, and never forgetting where their source and help came from. Abstinence education was especially dear to Peggy's heart. She diligently worked to make sure this generation knows that God has a plan for their lives.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Corrie (Shane) (Calipetro) Jones of Lantana, Florida; stepchildren, Bruce R. (Eleanor ) Thompson of Houston, Texas, Alison ( Mark) Calandra of Saline, Michigan, Linda Reinstadtler and Christopher Thompson of Toledo. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Grace and Joshua Jones, Katie, James, Ellie and Robert Thompson and Caroline Reinstadtler. Also surviving are her sisters, Roberta (Rupp) Moffat of Spring Lake, Michigan, Christine Rupp of Coral Gables, Florida, Angela (Rupp) Piecewicz of Lake Worth, Florida and brother, Michael Rupp of Toledo.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Palm Beach County and special thanks to Dr. Scott Kalina, Linda Banister, R.N. and all of the wonderful people on the Hospice Teal Team. Also, Lisa Fulton of Toledo, Thank You for your loving care of mom.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 12, 2006, from 2-8 p.m. at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH.
Visitation will take place at Cornerstone Church in Maumee, Ohio, on Thursday, April 13, 2006, from 9-11:00 a.m. with the Service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
Interment at East Swanton Cemetery immediately following the Service. Family will then receive friends at Cornerstone Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Palm Beach, Inc. 5300 East Ave. Palm Beach, FL 33407 or to Cornerstone Church, Children's Ministries.

We were so saddened to hear of Peggy's passing. We can still picture her in high school , her smile, her sense of humor and how she always looked like she stepped out of a fashion magazine. As we read about her life and her dedication to others we not only have lost a wonderful classmate but an outstanding person as well. Our sympathy to all of her family

To say that Peggy Rupp Calipetro Black Thompson was a remarkable woman would be such an understatement as to border on falsehood. This gal didn't just embrace life - she grabbed it by the hand and ran with it! She was a pragmatic, fiercely protective mother who loved Cori beyond words. Whether in the early years of her daughter's development when Peg did her best to nuture her, or in later years when she agonized over Cori's spiritual situation, Peggy kept her daughter's welfare a top priority. You simply could not be around Peg for any length of time and not smile. Her zest for life was infectious, and God used that quality in a great way after she gave over control of her life to Him. We had great times together - in the early years at her annual New Year's Eve open house parties, white-water rafting on the New River in W. Virginia, working at The Andersons, occasional lunches with laughs and great talks together - Peg was just one of those people everyone loved to be with. After she gave her life to Christ, her focus sharpened, her zeal and energy concentrated on doing God's work here on earth. She never did anything half-baked, and with Bruce she became a warrior for the faith. I am thankful to have known her for all those years. I look forward eagerly to the day when I'll see her again in Glory!

There are very few people that you meet in the world that have an immediate impact in your life. Words can not express the gratitude that Melissa and I had toward Mrs. Peggy Thompson. The way they(her and Bruce) personally touched our lives made an eternal mark that we will never forget. She truly sowed her life into those who knew her. Her passion for God and the things of God will always be an inspiration to us. She truly inspired a generation of young people who are now impacting the world for God. To Cori, The Rupp Family, The Thompson Family and all relatives of Mrs. Peggy Thompson please accept our sincerest condolences on her passing. We also would like you to know that the woman we are celebrating the life of now was a shining example of how to live for something greater than ourselves. We are thankful to have had the brief opportunity to know a person as special as she was. We will certainly miss her dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time.

Peggy was a woman of great wisdom. I gleaned from her deep revelation of God's Word and her life in general, as though they never were seperate, but intertwined. Surely, she was a risk taker for God's kingdom, and faced ostacles with boldness, courage, and confidence, never flinching at trials and tribulations. She studied God's Word in depth, discecting it until it became/consumed her. She lived the ultimate Christian life: spiritual and practical. She was never satisfied with the status cuo of her day, either in society and within the church, always being challenged to dive deeper into the things of God and in the natural successes of life, again, both never seperate, but, intertwined. She was a generous giver, seeing wealth as a tool to further God's kingdom, touching many lives (stories that may never all be told). She had a beautiful smile that lit up a room, and behind that smile, a zeal and passion for her great and awesome God! A passion that propelled her to reaching out to youth, orchestrating abstinence programs throughout Toledo, etc.

Peggy was a great example to the Christian life. She was a giving person and lived a life of commitment to the cause of Christian life. My wife Eddie and the two boys had found a resting place in her home. There were times when after prayers in her home she and her husband-Bruce would urge my family to spend a night in their home especially during snowy days. I really feel bad that God took Bruce and now Peggy away so early before we could learn the principles of life from them.

I couldn't have been in the PhD program now without Bruce and Peggy. It just seems unreal to think that Peggy is no more!

May her soul rest in peace.
