Ranieri ROCCHI Obituary

ROCCHI Ranieri, MD Ranieri Rocchi MD, age 79, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2010, at his Sylvania home with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Italy to the late Giannino and Iole (Fratigianni) Rocchi. Ranieri graduated in 1960 from Perugia Medical School in Italy and maintained a strong interest in his Italian culture and language. He came to the United States in 1960 and served his medical and surgical internships and residencies at the Flower Hospital, in Sylvania. He served as President of their Emergency Physicians Group, was a member of their Executive Committee, and served as Chief of Staff from 1985 to 1987. For 36 years, Dr. Rocchi was in private practice, specializing in family and emergency medicine. He was also the Medical Director of Sunset House and Autumnwood Nursing Homes, in Toledo. Dr. Rocchi was a very well respected resident of the community with extensive and current knowledge about primary care medicine and how to avoid the many pitfalls of seeking good medical care. He sacrificed time, energy, and remuneration in his zeal to improve the physical and mental health of our region's underprivileged. He will be remembered to this day as a "patron". He was the perfect blend of the old world and the USA. This was reflected in his respect for people and their opinions, his uncanny ability to articulate the importance of antiquity in shaping the future, and his involvement in shaping the quality of life individually and collectively. Ranieri led a group for the ASPEC- Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College. He was a marvelous musician in the grand old (romantic) European style. His technical capabilities were equally matched by his understanding of his music's history; he played with the Trio Musical group playing piano and a mean accordion. He is survived by his loving wife: Jean Rocchi; sister: Marisa (Eugenio) DeGregorio; brother: GianLuca (Pierina) Rocchi; and many nieces and nephews, all of Italy. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sylvania at 10:00 A.M. Memorial Services in St. Pete's Beach, Florida and Italy will be held at later dates. The Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, granted Dr. Rocchi's wish to be cremated so he may be returned to his beloved Italy. The family suggests tributes in the form of contributions to The Flower Hospital, 5200 Harroun Rd., Sylvania, OH 43560, Lourdes College, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania, OH 43560 or The Sunset House, 4020 Indian Rd., Toledo, 43606.
