Richard Gasser Obituary

Richard J. Gasser

09/19/1945 - 02/14/2026

Richard Joseph Gasser, 80, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026.

Born on September 19, 1945, in Napoleon, Ohio, Richard built a life rooted in love, laughter, and family. He was known for his quick wit, big personality, and unmistakable sense of humor. If you knew Richard, you knew how to laugh.

Richard had a deep love for the water, a soft heart for dogs, and an unwavering loyalty to Notre Dame Fighting Irish football. Above all, he cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathleen Gasser; his daughters, Ariel Layton, Erin Gasser, and Nixie Gasser; his beloved grandson, Zephyr Layton; and his dear sisters, Judy Siclair, and Cindy Hesterman. His family was his pride and joy, and his legacy lives on in the laughter, strength, and stories they carry forward.

Richard's remains will be interred in Sarasota, Florida, during a small family ceremony. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held later this year in Toledo, Ohio.

He will be remembered for the way he could make any room lighter just by being in it. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

My sympathy to the Gasser family. I was a Delta Upsilon Fraternity brother of Dick at BGSU. I roomed with him one year at thr DU house and have fond memories of him. His nickname around the house was Diamond Dick Gasser. May he rest in peace!

Dick was an awesome guy we had many great times with him. Frequently remember all the laughs together.
