Richard Holmes Obituary

Richard "Rick" Holmes, Jr.

2/26/1951 - 2/7/2024

Rick Holmes Jr. passed away on February 7, 2024, under hospice care in Sylvania, OH. Rick graduated in 1969 from Central Catholic High School where he starred on the 1968 championship football team on the field and in the stands during the basketball games where he earned the nickname "Buckeye" for having what C.C.H.S. newspaper called "The Biggest Mouth in Ohio." He was married to his wife, Chris, for just shy of 48 years. The last 25 years Rick and Chris lived on Bear Lake in Reading, MI, where they led the state of Michigan at least 10x in hours on a pontoon boat, loved their HPV weekends (Holmes/Perz Vacations), and dunking his grandkids in the cove. During the week Rick and his partner Freddy dominated their golf league at Bella Vista where they used their age to their advantage and just kept moving up tee boxes. Rick absolutely loved the Detroit Tigers and Lions. During basketball season Rick and Chris religiously watched Michigan State basketball games.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Chris; his brothers, Mike (Cindy), Mark (Keith); sisters, Jeannie (Joe) Sieren and Carol (Ed) Beers; sister-in-law, Cathie Holmes; his incredibly handsome son, Jake (Sue) of Sylvania; his 2 daughters, Margie and Lynn; along with his incredibly loved grandkids, Gabe, Nick, Keegan, Carson and Reese; and way too many friends to mention. Preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Marge; his brothers, Daniel and "Nice Shot" Bob; his son-in-law, Kevin Burgard; and his nephew, Greg Frenk.

Funeral arrangements include a Memorial Mass at Most Blessed Sacrament, 2240 Castlewood Dr., Toledo, OH 43613, on Saturday, February 10th, at 10 am, where Rick was a 1965 graduate and then immediately follow the mass a HUGE party just like Rick would want at Highland Meadows Golf Club. Leave the ties at home and put on your best golf shirt. From the Book of Rick Holmes Chapter 1 Verse 1. "Though I walk through the Valley of Death I shall fear no evil because I am the meanest SOB in the Valley." (Nah Dad you were just a great guy and the life of the party.)

Lynnie, I'm so sad for you and your family yet there's no doubt that you all know well how to celebrate those shining stars in our lives! It was a long time ago, but I remember your dad as one of those stars. Hey, if Kevin loved him, how could he not be? I raise a toast to both of them, and you and Margie too.

Thoughts and prayers go out to Rick's family. Had the pleasure to be classmate and teammate of Rick's. In four years of highschool and a couple of years of TCYA Basketball, can never remember a time he didn't have a smile on his face and of course that infectious laugh of his. RIP "Buckeye", you'll be missed..
