Robert Henry Meintzer

MEINTZER Robert Henry Robert Henry Meintzer, age 86, of Delta, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 18, 2007, at the Swanton Health Care and Retirement Center, with his loving family at his bedside. He was born in Swanton, Ohio, on October 23, 1920, to Henry George and Edith Lonetta (Turpening) Meintzer. On October 10, 1943, he married Doris Leona Johnston, and she preceded him in death on December 8, 2004. He was a 1938 graduate of Swanton High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was assigned to the Pacific Theater in World War II with the 170th Engineer Combat Battalion in Inchon, Korea. Bob was a lifelong farmer with a purebred swine operation. He enjoyed raising and showing top hogs at the Ohio State Fair and many national hog shows. He was very active in politics and was a member of the Republican County Central Committee. He served as a Swancreek Township trustee for 17 years, served 8 years on the State Board of Directors and was later elected Fulton County Commissioner. He also served on the Fulton County Fair Board and was past-president of the Fulton County Senior Center Board. Bob was a member of Brailey Union Church, was a life member of the Delta American Legion Post #373 and the Fulton County Farm Bureau. He is survived by his daughter, Lorraine (David) Brown of Bryan, OH; son, Lyle (Renee) Meintzer of Simi Valley, CA; 5 grandchildren, Megan and Jordan Brown, and Parker, Peyton and Perri Meintzer; brother-in-law, Dale Johnston of Swanton, OH and 2 nieces. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Doris. Friends and family may visit Saturday, October 20th, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 21st, at 2 p.m. at Brailey Union Church, 5571 Co. Rd. 3 in Swanton, with Rev. James Nixon officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Raker Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Brailey Union Church.
