Roy Ocheske Obituary

Roy Nicholas Ocheske

Roy Nicholas Ocheske, age 83, of Oregon, Ohio passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 surrounded by his loving family at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Roy was born to Nicholas Orshovsky (Ocheske) and Mildred McCloud in Toledo, Ohio. Roy attended Waite High School and at 18 enlisted in the United States Air Force. He later received his Associates Degree in Business Administration from Davis College.

Roy began working for Libbey Owens Ford in the 1960's and became an active labor leader with Local 9 Aluminum Brick and Glass Workers. During his time with the organization he held many positions, most notably being the President of Local 9 and Vice President of Ohio AFL-CIO. Roy also served as the President of Toledo AFL-CIO Central Body, the Vice President of International Union Aluminum, Brick, and Glass Workers, and as a Trustee of Owens College, United Way, and International Pension Fund.

After retiring, Roy pursued new projects in life including home construction and gardening. He was well known for his perfectly kept garden and top-notch tomatoes. Roy loved to host fish frys for his family, cheer on his favorite team, The Ohio State Buckeyes, and run errands all over the city. Roy was a friend to many; his compassion for others and willingness to give are unmatched and this showed in the multitude of friends he made. Above all, Roy was dedicated to his family. He was the go-to person and would drop anything to help out those he cared about. Roy was the best husband, father, and papa. He will be missed beyond measure.

Roy is survived by his loving wife, Janet, of 67 years, son, Dale (Ray Zielinski); daughter, Debbie (Mike) Kovacs; granddaughters, Lindsay (Steve) Kyser and Kelsey Kovacs; brothers, Larry (Susan) Ocheske, Richard (Diane) Orshovsky; sisters, Kathy (Loren) Hirsch, Mary Ann (Larry) Culver; and many loving relatives. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Mildred; and sisters, Anna Jeanne Schwind and Cherie McCloud.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gopinath Upamaka and ProMedica Physicians Cardiology and Samantha Christie and the Cardiac Rehab Program at St. Charles for their years of dedication to Roy's health. Additionally, they would like to thank the staff at ProMedica Toledo Hospital for their compassion and excellent care.

The family will receive friends at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Rd, Oregon, Ohio, Friday, January 28, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place in the funeral home on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Internment will remain private. Janet and family, I´m so sorry for your loss. Roy was such a nice man and a great neighbor. He made sure I had all the cucumbers and tomatoes I needed during the summer. I know you will miss him so much as he was a wonderful husband, father, friend and neighbor.

Roy was my oldest brother who became one of my dearest friends. I will so miss our phone conversations where we shared memories of our family and most especially memories of our beloved Mother. I learned about Honey Bells oranges from Roy, that these oranges are only grown here in Florida and are only in season here a very short time. He shared he had the pleasure of enjoying the Honey Bells on a trip made to made Florida many years ago. His birthday just happened to be during Honey Bell season so it was the perfect gift. My Dearest Brother I know it´s Honey Bell season all the time in Heaven and you will enjoy them all them all the time. You will be so missed by so many and especially me. Our Love and Sympathy to Janet, Dale and Debbie and their families. Love Kathy and Loren

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the entire Ocheske family. Anyone who was lucky enough to meet and experience Roy Ocheske´s laughter and positive energy will never forgot it. As they say, "The Apple did not fall far from the tree" as it was a trait his children also inherited. Fond childhood memories at that house!
