NORRIS Ruby B. Ruby Norris, 90, passed away at the Elizabeth Scott Community in Maumee on Sunday, March 20, 2011, where she had been a resident since September, 2009. She was born August 10, 1920, in Braxton County, West Virginia to Albert and Rosa Chaplin. It was at the Cedar Creek family home and the Burke Church where many wonderful memories were made with siblings, relatives and friends and formed the basis for a life of faith in the Lord and devotion to family. Beloved gospel songs such as: Are You Washed in the Blood, How Beautiful Heaven Must Be, Precious Memories and When the Roll is Called Up Yonder, brought joy to her heart and strength for the journey. For fifty-one years Ruby was married to Charles "Chuck" Norris who preceded her in death. They made their home in South Toledo for much of their married life. Vacationing in Florida was enjoyed during the retirement years, but nothing was anticipated or cherished as much as returning to their West Virginia home on the banks of the Cedar Creek, for it was there that they met, fell in love and were married. Ruby was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church for many years and was active in the women's circle and in Sunday school class. In recent years she was a member of Church of the Cross United Methodist. Extending a helping hand to neighbors or just lending them a listening ear gave her much satisfaction. She is survived by brothers, Glen Chaplin (Erma), Dencil Chaplin (Mary); sister, Veda Newman; son, Jim (Sara) Norris; daughter, Debra Whaley; grandchildren, Wendy (Matt) Yeager, Brian (Heather) Norris, Matthew Norris, Jason Whaley, Jeff Whaley, Jameson Whaley; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tabitha, Hannah, Lydia, Joshua Yeager and Nathaniel and Andrew Norris. Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Cross United Methodist, 1806 Cass Rd., Toledo, OH, with Pastor Steve Judson officiating.
