Ruby Tanner Obituary
Ruby Margaret Tanner, age 90, of Toledo, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 2, 2025. She was born April 15, 1934, in Flat River, MO, to father, Lester, and mother, Irene (Strickland) Cureton. Ruby married George Tanner in August of 1953, and happily devoted her life to caring for their family. A fantastic housekeeper and laundress, she kept their home in perfect order. She was a great cook, and an avid gardener who enjoyed tending her perennials and wavy petunias. Frugal to a fault, she could "can" anything and always had a well-stocked pantry. Ruby loved listening to country music, and sitting with her husband, George, in their beautiful backyard gazebo. She was truly a captivating and extraordinary woman who will be dearly missed.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Donald Tanner, in 2014; daughter, Michelle Maiden, in 1998; sisters, Hilda Keeler and Bertha Cox; and brothers, Glenn and Joe Cureton. She is survived by her sons, Donald (Monica), John (Kathy), and Mike (Julie) Tanner; son-in-law, Tony Maiden; grandchildren, Courtney Billian, Douglas Billian, Melissa (Jason) Razook, Andrea (Nick) Mitchell, Jamie Tanner, Ashley (Todd) Keil, Andrew Foore, Andrew (Alyssa) Maiden, Zach (Allison) Maiden, Alexandra (Jack) Kimura, Damon Tanner, Caleb Tanner, Katie (Ethan) Babkiewicz, and Luke Tanner; and 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Geneva Wozniak, Dorothy Cureton, Luetta (Pete) Jeremy, Debbie (Danny) Toth, and Raymond (Terri) Cureton; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 9, from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. The funeral service will begin Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor David McGregor presiding. Interment will follow in Lake Township Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to Athens Missionary Baptist Church, 101 Breckman St., Walbridge, OH 43465. Condolences can be shared at www.sujkowski.com.

Ruby was a force of nature. She seemed to have energy that never failed her. She was so kind to me and our family, throwing a party for us at her home one of the last times we visited Toledo. I will always be thankful for that reminder of how wonderful it is to have family.
Her Gazebo is where we ended up gathering and we laughed alot! I got a tour of her garden which is a particular love of mine that we both shared. We both got the gardening gene.
She took the lead of the family with that party after Gramma passed away and I thank her for that. Ruby was a wonderful woman and she will be missed.
