Ruth Nutter Obituary

Ruth Ellen Nutter, age 82, a wonderful, lady with a big heart, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2006. She was the daughter of Moses and Anna Maude (Heflin) Smith born in West Union, West Virginia, on July 14, 1923. Ruth married Donald Nutter on November 20, 1943 and they spent 62 wonderful years together raising three loving daughters, Sue, Sharon and Bette. Ruth was always caring and doing for others with her time, her talents and her treasures. She and Don loved to grow big vegetable and flower gardens that they shared with family and friends. Ruth, a 45 year member of Toledo Baptist Temple, truly enjoyed lending a helping hand at church with different activities. She was also well known for her knitted slippers and scarves. The last year of her life was spent helping wounded soldiers in Iraq. She knitted hand and foot coverings for the wounded being transported to Germany for treatment.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Don; daughters, Sue (Vernon) Browning, Sharon (William) Bailiff and Bette Nutter (Ken); grandchildren, Holly (Johnny) Graff, David (Jill) Browning, Gretchen (Chad) VanSickle, David Bailiff, Alison (Todd) Kippel, Andrea Bailiff, Ryan Nutter and Elizabeth Nutter; 6 great-grandchildren plus two more that Ruth was anxiously waiting for. Also surviving are sisters, Edwina (Burl) Travis and Mary Jett; brother, Lee (Gerry) Smith and her nieces and nephews who she loved spending time with when visiting the farm in West Virginia.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., (west of Corey Rd) and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. where services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Billy V. Bartlett officiating.
