Ruth Sarno Obituary

SARNO

Ruth Ellen

Ruth E. Sarno, 91, formerly of Jacksonville, Florida, and currently of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on December 26, 2014. She was born in Gordan, Alabama on March 7, 1923, to Joseph and Lonie Bond.

As a teenager she moved with her family to Jacksonville, FL. She met and married Richard Sarno in 1943 while he was in the Marine Corps. They lived in Santa Ana, CA, Cherry Point, NC, and Quantico, VA. They retired to Jacksonville, FL in 1958, where they lived until 2003. In 2003 they moved to Swan Creek Retirement Village in Toledo near their oldest daughter. For the majority of her marriage she was a homemaker, working for a short while at Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance. In her neighborhood in Jacksonville all the children called her "Granny Ruth" and she always had a hug for everyone. Two of her hobbies were needle crafts and working crossword puzzles.

Ruth was the third youngest of seven children. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy and Edward Bond, and sisters, Marteel Hatton, Geraldine Sullivan and Mary Bond. She has one surviving sister, Carolyn Merritt.

Ruth and Richard had three children, Rickye (Henry) Heffner, Richard Sarno Jr. (deceased) and Rudi Jenkins. She is also survived by grandchildren, Henry (Sarah), Peter (Cathy), Kristin, Casey (Justin) and Danielle, and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. at the Reed Chapel at Swan Creek, 5916 Cresthaven Lane in Toledo, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Independence, 5810 Southwyck Blvd, Toledo, OH (419-865-1499). My youngest daughter Ellie, had such a fondness for Ruth. The two were fast friends. She was such a wonderful lady, and we will miss her smiles and hugs greatly.

Dear Rudi and Your Sister,
I send my deepest sympathy to you and your sister upon the death of your Mother and now your Father a few days later of each other. They had a wonderful long life together and one could not ask for much more than that. What a devoted loving couple. Now they can be in heaven together and I'm sure your brother is delighted for the reunion with them. I always said when a person loses their Mother they lose their best friend but in this case you have lost 2 best friends.
I know you gals will have lots to take care of as there always is after a death. I want you to know that many of your friends and family are praying for you to help you through these sad and trying times. I have fond memories with your parents when we shared our grandchildren with them in Florida when the grandchildren were little ones.
God Bless You both! With love, Teri Reed in California
