Ruth Ellen Zakrzewski

Ruth Ellen Zakrzewski, age 89, formerly of Slater St. in Toledo, OH, passed peacefully on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Sunset House Assisted Living, Toledo. She was born on November 23, 1933 in Toledo, OH to Leon and Julia (Beebe) Hart. A graduate of St. Francis Grade School and St. Ursula High School, she attended both Mary Manse College and Toledo University. She was employed at Ohio Bell for 33 years where she was appointed the first woman assigner in Toledo, retiring in 1986. She then worked at Jo Ann Fabrics, the St. Vincent Hospital Gift Shop, and other places. Never one to stay idle, Ruth was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations including the St. Vincent Hospital Knitting Club, St. Ursula High School, and the retiree programs at Ohio Bell. She was a devout Catholic who loved her faith. She also volunteered many hours at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church where she was a longtime parishioner. Ruth enjoyed crafts and could often be found knitting at all hours of the day and night. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed.

Ruth is survived by her son, Michael (Danielle) Zakrzewski; grandchildren, Isabella Lause, Haley Palicki (fiancé Joseph McCauley), and Noah Palicki; great-grandchildren, Lorelai and Luna; brothers, John (Ladonna) Hart and Tom (Sharon) Hart; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, Lucian Zakrzewski on May 1, 2011.

Visitation will be Monday, March 27 from 3-8 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. where members of the St. Catherine Church Altar Rosary Sodality will lead a rosary at 4 p.m. Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in St. Catherine of Siena Church at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
