Sharon Riehl Obituary

Sharon (McMahon) Riehl

March 3, 1944 - July 9, 2025

Sharon Ann (McMahon) Riehl, age 81, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, at Ohio Living Swan Creek in Toledo, OH.

She was born in Toledo on March 3, 1944, to the late Edmond and Agnes (Hickey) McMahon. She was the oldest of eight children in their large, Irish family which included four girls and four boys. She graduated from Whitney High School and was very active in Junior Achievement.

Sharon had a creative side, which she expressed in many ways throughout her life. One of her first jobs was working at Stein's Department Store where some of her tasks were setting up window displays and wrapping gifts for customers, which she did beautifully. She enjoyed creating with faux flowers and made arrangements for a few small weddings. Sharon enjoyed shopping for unique finds – especially antiques – and had a genuine talent for decorating. Despite the many moves over the years of raising her family, she always made each house feel familiar, beautiful, and welcoming. Some of her other jobs included selling real estate for the Danberry Company, serving as a secretary at the Toledo Board of Education, and working retail at Lion's Store.

Sharon was a believer in Jesus Christ and enjoyed helping and praying for others. She volunteered with hospice, served as a chaplain along with her late husband, and worked with disabled individuals at the Anne Grady Center.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Riehl; sister, Maureen Stiles; and nephew, Sean McMahon. She is survived by her daughter, Kris (Arne) Johnson, and their four sons and wives, Callahan (Sugi), Will (Hannah), Ben (Abigail), and Gavin; her son, Jeff (Heidi) McDonald, and their three children, Cody (Tia), Cassie, and Colton; her son, David McDonald; 6 grandchildren; sisters, brothers, and their spouses, Brian (Marcy), Gary, Carol (Bill), Mike (Vicki), Kevin, Judy (Rob); and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

A Memorial Service and Graveside Burial will be held at Toledo Memorial Park, on Saturday, October 25th, for family and close friends.
