Stephen Hardy Obituary

Stephen Michael Hardy

Stephen Michael Hardy, 73, of Oregon, Ohio passed away July 6, 2023. He was born to Robert and Susanna Hardy on December 30, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1968 where he excelled at football, wrestling and track & field. He went on to play football and wrestle at Bowling Green State University where he proudly graduated in 1973. Steve remained a loyal Falcon fan his entire life. He later obtained a master's degree from the University of Toledo. Steve married the love of his life Jean (Lepper) of Toledo, Ohio on May 12, 1972, and they spent 51 years together living in Rossford, Ohio before spending the last 40 years in Oregon, Ohio. Steve was an active member and Eucharistic Minister at All Saints Catholic Parrish; formally St Cyril and Methodious.

He worked at General Mills as a manager on the loading dock for 20 years until a forklift injury forced him into disability retirement. At that time, he began his new career in volunteering, spending the next two decades as a coach, teacher, and tutor. Steve coached football and track & field as well as taught theology and math at Cardinal Stritch High School. He also coached football at many levels in the Oregon School District where he also tutored students. He was always generous with his time with a genuine passion to help anyone in need. Besides volunteering his time, he enjoyed spending time with family, watching football and westerns, and watching his grandchildren participate in sports.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Amibeth (Kevin) Seman of Northwood, Ohio and Stephen (Angela) Hardy of Sylvania, Ohio; grandchildren, Brennan Green and Mya Hardy; brothers and sisters in laws, Robert (Barbara) Hardy of Angleton, Texas and James (Janet) Hardy of Toledo, Ohio.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13, at Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, 440 S. Coy Rd., from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. The family will also greet friends on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Epiphany of the Lord Parish - St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 729 White St., Toledo, Ohio, 43605 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery.

To the Hardy Family: I went to DeVilbiss HS the same years that Steve did and he was the most unassuming yet impressive man in my graduating class of 1968. He had a quiet confidence and gentle demeanor and was always a gentleman...except when it was time to right a wrong or confront an evil. He was especially good at dressing down a bully and he stood up for me once in our freshman year as I was being harrassed by three older students behind the football stadium after pracitce. He was diligent in his studies, I never saw him drunk or disorderly, and always kept his word. He was an exemplary student, friend, and person and certainly a credit to his family and faith. Steve was one of the kindest men I have ever known and our loss is heaven's gain. - Denny Hartman DHS '68, Myrtle Beach, SC

Mr Hardy got me through math in high school and helped me get the math credit I needed to pass. He was a great story teller who spoke often of his family and his children and especially football. Mr Hardy also helped my wife Katelyn pass math as well. We will always remember Mr Hardy as one tough man and a super nice and kind hearted person.

We pray that Mr Hardy is welcomed into Gods open arms and he is playing all the football he can in Heaven!!

Rest In peace Mr Hardy,

Forever Remembered,

On behalf of the Stritch family I would like to thank the Hardy family for sharing Steve with us for so many years. He touched hundreds of students lives both in the classroom, and on the athletic fields. He was a tremendous role model in giving unselfishly of his time and talents. Know that you are in our prayers.

There were three great teachers who were in my life through my life. One of which was Mr. Hardy who essentially told me at the time I was too smart to be too lazy. Having that belief always stuck with me to this day. He helped form me in the man I am! My condolences for his family and friends. A great man who will truly be missed. CSHS students appreciate everything you did for all of us. Rest easy.

Dear Hardy Family,

I am sorry to hear of the loss of Steve. He worked out at Torio´s and was very loved and respected. A big, strong man - tough as they come - but also a kind-hearted person: great combination! God bless

The Jexs send our sincere condolences to Steve's family. Steve and I grew up and together in the same neighborhood, and we went to Bancroft Hills Elementary, Nathan Hale, and then DeVilbiss HS. Steve helped me become a caddy at Inverness, and we were part of a good Nathan Hale football team. The few times they gave me the ball I'd try to follow Steve at right tackle! While Steve was a great athlete at DeVilbiss, I went into music, but we remained close friends and we 'double-dated' to our '68 senior prom with the two prettiest girls there.
Everyone loved and respected Steve Hardy, and our world is a lesser place without him.
Peace, David Jex

Steve was a good friend and teammate at BGSU. In high school Steve and I wrestled against each other (Steve at Devilbiss and me at Waite). Little did I realize at the time what a wonderful person he was and also how competitive he could be. It is an honor for me to have been a friend of Steve and Jean for all these years. He was so proud of his family and his alma mater and did so much for so many during his lifetime. A Falcon through and through.
God be with you my friend.
