Suresh Dasani Obituary

Dr. Suresh Dasani

9/2/1954 - 6/22/2023

Dr. Suresh Dasani, MD (9/2/54 to 6/22/23), a compassionate and dedicated family medicine doctor and geriatrician, has passed away after a courageous year-long battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He leaves behind a legacy of healing, kindness, and cherished memories. Dr. Dasani, aged 68, was a resident of Fort Myers, Florida, where he served his community with utmost kindness.

Born in Nsanje, Malawi, Dr. Dasani spent his early years in Marka, Malawi, before attending high school in Blantyre, Malawi, where he was deeply grateful for the unity and support of his community during a time of segregation. Together, they built a high school that would provide opportunities for Dr. Dasani and other immigrants.

Dr. Dasani's passion for healing led him to study at Udaipur and Baroda Medical College in Vadodara, India. He embraced his calling to care for others, and this devotion guided his career throughout his life. Prior to his time in Florida, Dr. Dasani resided in Ottawa Hills, Ohio, where he raised his family and worked as a family medicine physician and geriatrician for 29 years. There, he cared for patients at his clinic Point Shoreland Health Center, worked as a hospitalist, and served as the Medical Director at St. Anne's Hospital, where his leadership and expertise greatly benefited the community.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Dasani cherished his role as a loving husband to his wife, Sonu Dasani. Together, they built a life in Fort Myers, creating countless memories and supporting one another through life's challenges. His forty-year marriage was a testament to love and partnership.

Dr. Dasani was a proud father to two accomplished children, Sheena Dasani Esq. and Dr. Serena Dasani. Sheena pursued a career in law and is based in Washington, DC. She and her husband, Jon Zucker Esq., blessed Dr. Dasani with the joy of being a grandfather to two beloved grandchildren, Maya and Avi Dasani. Dr. Serena Dasani and her husband Dr. Sourav Bose followed in their father's footsteps and are physicians at the Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Dr. Dasani also was known for his magnanimous nature and zest for life. He found joy in spending quality time with friends and family, embarking on travel adventures, indulging in delicious food, and going on long walks, relishing the beauty of the world around him. His storytelling skills captivated those around him, allowing his experiences and wisdom to resonate deeply with all who knew him.

Dr. Dasani leaves behind a profound impact on the lives he touched as a physician, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His dedication, willpower, and love for others will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory live on in our hearts, inspiring us to live with the same warmth and generosity he exemplified throughout his life.

In honor of Dr. Suresh Dasani's memory and his commitment to improving healthcare, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Healthwell Foundation or the ALS Foundation, in lieu of flowers and gifts.
