Susan J. French Knust

Susan J. French Knust, age 70, died at home in Hendersonville, NC on December 3, 2020 with her family by her side after a courageous six-year struggle with cancer.

Susan is survived by her beloved family, Richard her husband of 45 years; son, Justin (Vanessa); and daughter Emily. Susan was also survived by her pride and joy, granddaughters, Madison and Jordan, and her many nieces and nephews.

Susan was the youngest of five sisters, Rebecca Minick, Sharon Busson, Joyce (Richard) Tallman, and Dianne (Dave) Young. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lucille French.

Susan was a graduate of Northwood High School, the University of Cincinnati and Wright State University. Susan enjoyed a long and accomplished career in a field she loved -- nursing. Her nursing career included working in trauma care facilities and teaching nursing at the college level. After a break to raise Justin and Emily, Susan returned to nursing as a nurse in her daughter Emily's school in Orlando, FL. After a move to Hendersonville, NC, Susan joined the Henderson County School system, retiring in 2014.

Through several relocations, Susan proved to be phenomenal at creating warm, welcoming homes, supporting her kids in their activities and getting involved in the community.

Susan loved to sew, was an accomplished cook, and had a great sense of humor.

Due to COVID, a memorial service will be held in Toledo, Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family established a scholarship in Susan's name at her alma mater, University of Cincinnati. The scholarship will award an incoming school of nursing freshman full first year tuition and fees.
