Dr. Thomas P. Straub

Dr. Thomas P. Straub passed away peacefully on January 17, 2022, at the age of 85, just a few weeks before his 86th birthday, surrounded by his loving wife and children. Born in 1936, to Josephine and Egwin Straub in Toledo, Ohio, he was the youngest and only boy of five children. He had just celebrated his 63rd wedding anniversary to his wife, Betty Beckler Straub, who he met in the first grade at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in south Toledo.

After graduating from Central Catholic High School, Tom was a proud Dayton Flyer and UT Toledo Rocket before attending Marquette University for medical school. Upon graduation from medical school, he was drafted to serve in Smyrna, Tennessee as a Captain in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

After serving in the Air Force, Tom and Betty returned to their hometown of Toledo where he finished his residency at St. Vincent's Hospital and began practicing Obstetrics and Gynecology. He loved his patients and spent over 32 years bringing babies into this world and taking care of women's medical needs. It was not uncommon for Tom and Betty to be stopped while out anywhere and be thanked for his care.

Tom was an avid golfer and enthusiastic high school and college sports fan. He loved visiting his 4 children, 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, who live from one coast to the other.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Fran Sears, Sue Saal, Julie Donahue, and Barb Gregory. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his children, Cindy (Paul) Martin, Lisa (Mike) Kelly, Tom (Kim) Straub, Jen (Chuck) Boynton; and his grandchildren, Rachel (Wes), Joanna, Lauren (Alex), Shannon (Chad), Kasey, Nick (Kerri), Jacob, Joshua, Hannah, Caroline, Duncan, Andrew, Nolan; and great-grandchildren, Beckham and Riley.

A visitation will be at Coyle Funeral Home at 1770 S. Reynolds Road on Friday, January 21st from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral will begin at Coyle at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass on Saturday, January 22nd, 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2255 Central Grove. Burial will be at Resurrection cemetery with military honors.

We are going to miss Tom. He was a great man who loved his family, friends, and golf. He always seemed to have a smile and a friendly or kind word to say when he saw you. It was an honor to have known Tom. Regrets to his family and please remember that many loved him. May he now rest in peace.

Dr. Straub delivered 2 of my babies. He was with me through cervical cancer. He was a wonderful, compassionate, & kind man. Rest In Peace.
