Virginia Schmuhl Obituary

SCHMUHL

Virginia "Ginny"

Virginia Mae (Byers) Schmuhl, age 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Ginny, as she was affectionately known, was born May 31, 1929, in Martin, Ohio. The only child of Fred and Albirna Byers, she graduated from Genoa High School in 1947. After graduation, she worked at AP Parts and Lasalle's in downtown Toledo, taking the train ride in for 25 cents each day. In later years, she participated in her husband's business working as a bookkeeper.

In 1948 she met her love, Joe, and they were married in 1951 at OLPH Chapel. The two were blessed with four children. Ginny and Joe were avid boaters, belonging to both Toledo Sailing Club and Maumee River Yacht Club for over 40 years. Her many trips aboard the Jo-Gin and years spent wintering in Florida were memorable for her. Ginny loved riding her scooter and going to Key West. She enjoyed working her crossword puzzle books and always had her bingo chips ready to go! As a wife and mother, she cooked and loved to bake. Her homemade noodles, cinnamon rolls and Halloween popcorn balls were some of her kid's favorites.

After 62 years of marriage, her love Joe passed away. Father Greg came to visit in her final days and asked what she was going to do when she sees her husband in Heaven. She replied, "give him a BIG kiss." Mom said she had a wonderful life and wonderful children.

Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Joe and her parents, Fred and Albirna. She is survived by her children, Susan Schmuhl, Michael (Leslie) Schmuhl, Patty (Jimmy) Layton, Linda (Troy) Whitzel and grandchildren, Eric (Anna) Layton, Kelli Layton and Gabrielle Whitzel.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 22, from 2 until 7 p.m. at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., in Toledo with private burial at Highland Memory Gardens. The family asks that those planning an expression of sympathy to please consider Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Online condolences may be offered to the family at:
