Virginia Schwabel Obituary

SCHWABEL

Virginia

Virginia May Schwabel, a woman of kind words, compassion and empathy for others, and an unending love for her family, completed her journey on earth September 18, 2012. Born September 19, 1924, in Carey, Ohio to

Thomas and Catherine (Nye) Baker, she was the youngest of four and was "Daddy's Girl". Her siblings, Clyde,

Joseph, and Helen all preceded Virginia in death. She married John Schwabel on April 13, 1947, in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, moved to Tiffin, and on to Maumee, where she and her husband raised their family.

Virginia was involved in the Wayne Trail PTA working on school carnivals and classroom activities. She was both a den mother and Girl Scout leader. She was also active for many years with the St Petri's Woman's Guild. As

an excellent seamstress,

Virginia created one of a kind prom dresses for her daughter.

Virginia often told memorable stories of her first job at age 18 as a "milk maid" delivering milk with her best friend Nadine in Carey, Ohio. Early in her marriage she worked at Willy's Overland in Toledo, and later worked as a sales clerk for JC Penny at "Wrab B". She retired from Southwyck Bowling Lanes as owner/manager of the snack bar where she served up free french fries to her grandkids and their friends.

Virginia loved to travel. There were family vacations in Alpena, Michigan, summers spent at Shady Shores on Lake Erie (she loved catching perch and walleye !), winters in Fort Myer, Florida with her snowbird friends, and motor home trips to western states.

Ginny loved life and will be remembered as a child of God, best friend, loving wife, mother, grandmother, (watch out- the Getche bug is coming to get cha!) and great-grandmother. She leaves

behind to cherish her memory husband, John; children, Karen (John), David (Debbie) and Bruce (Dawn); grandchildren, Matthew (Karen), Aaron (Regan), Ryan (Holly), John (Lindsay), Luke, Cierra (Scott), Megan, Bruce,

Kristin, Erik, Isiah, Olivia, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 20, 2012, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home 501 Conant Street Maumee, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2012, at Maison-Dardenne-Walker with interment to follow at Highland Memory Garden in Waterville, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be given at

David, Bruce and Karen,
I was so saddened to read of the loss of your mother. She was a wonderful lady and loved by so many. There was never a time that you walked in her home that she didn't welcome you will that beautiful smile and kind words. Though I haven't seen her in years, I have never forgotten what a great mom she was to each of you. Even when David and Bruce were causing trouble(!) she loved you unconditionally. Heaven just received a special angel. I'm so sorry for your loss.
