Wayne KELLEY Obituary

KELLEY Wayne Boileau Wayne Boileau Kelley, Colonel, United States Army Reserve retired, age 88, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 9, 2010 at Lancaster's Fairfield Medical Center surrounded by his family. He retired after 40 years with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and as manager of Marketing and Sales. He joined the tire company on October 1, 1943. Additionally, he served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946 and with the United States Army Reserve from 1946 to 1977 retiring with the rank of colonel. He underwent a unique experience of holding command assignments in more than 14 years of a 31-year Army Reserve Career. His formal military education included specialized Army schools. Colonel Kelley's association with the United States Army Reserves began in September 1946. During his career, he was promoted to captain, major, lieutenant colonel and finally colonel in the Transportation Corps. He started his military career as a private in the Army, July 21, 1944. He trained at Fort Hood Texas and following basic training was selected to attend Officers Candidate School at New Orleans Army Air Base. He received the gold bars of a second lieutenant April 4, 1945. He was born August 7, 1921 in Bremen, Ohio to Elsie (Webb) and Pete Kelley and other than during World War II, was a lifetime Ohio resident, and of Lancaster, since 2003. He graduated from Rushcreek Memorial High School in 1939 and from The Ohio University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Survived by his loving wife, Rita M. (Boch) Kelley of over 66 years; daughter Jayne (Michael) Burns and son Jeff (Michelle) Kelley, Lt Col, USAF retired; grandchildren Kelley (Seth) Miller, Christy Burns M.D., and Caitlin Burns; and great grandchildren Maeve Miller, Rowan Miller, and Reagan Miller; a host of nieces, nephews and other friends. He was a member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Bremen, as well as lifetime member of the Armed Forces Reserve Officer Association and the American Legion. Wayne was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, a former Woodville Ohio Councilman, investment club president who enjoyed reading and investing in the stock market. The family wishes to thank the Fairfield Medical Center and Lanfair Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care staff for the exceptional medical attention and support he received. The family will receive friends Friday, March 12 from 5-8 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home, 124 Fort Street, Bremen Ohio. A prayer vigil will be held at 8:00 p.m. A mass, officiated by Father Thomas Kessler, will be held Saturday, March 13 at 1:00 p.m. in Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 602 Marietta Street Bremen, Ohio. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Mary's Catholic Church, 602 Marietta Street Bremen, Ohio 43107 or the Bremen Area Historical Society, 161 Carter Street, P.O. Box 33, Bremen, Ohio 43107 in the name of Colonel Wayne B. Kelley.
