Gary Lee Rhodes, 75, of Brookville passed away on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, at the Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Brookville on Nov. 20, 1940, a son of the late A. Wade Rhodes and Helen (Black) Rhodes.
Gary lived all of his life in Brookville where he enjoyed visiting with the people on Main Street and was also a resident of the Jefferson Manor for several years.
In 1953, he was an outstanding member of the Brookville Grays Baseball team playing the positions of short stop and second baseman. He was a big Steelers and Pirates fan. He also enjoyed assembling model cars.
Gary's greatest passion in life was spending time with his family whom he loved dearly.
Surviving relatives include one son, Mark Rhodes and wife LuAnn of State College, Pa.; two daughters, Barbara Rhodes of DuBois, Pa.; and Vickie Rudolph and husband Tim of Ringgold, Pa.; two grandchildren, Mark Rhodes and Alicia Rhodes both of State College, Pa.; two brothers, Rick Rhodes of DuBois, Pa., and Jerome Black of Wooster, Ohio; one sister, Margaret Tait of Fremont, Calif.; and a special nephew, Howard L. Rhodes and wife Christine of Brookville, Pa.
Preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Gene Rhodes, Leonard Rhodes, Raymond Rhodes and Kenneth Rhodes; and two sisters, Grace Spraque and Dorothy Harriger.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at the Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at the funeral home.
Interment will follow at the Meade Chapel Cemetery in Brookville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Rhodes' memory to the Jefferson Manor Health Center, 417 Rt. 28 STE 200, Brookville, PA 15825.
