Thomas A. Carns

1952 - 2025

Thomas A. Carns, age 72, of Orrville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at his home, following a period of declining health.

Born on October 22, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Thomas was the son of the late James Henry Carns and Lilly Mae Carns. On January 19, 1974, he married Sherry May Smith in DuBois, Pennsylvania, sharing a life of love and companionship.

Thomas was a 1970 graduate of DuBois High School and pursued further education before embarking on a diverse and hardworking career. He worked as a grocery clerk, a coal miner, and later as a truck driver for Schneider National Carriers, dedicating over 15 years to the open road before retiring.

A man of many interests, Thomas was a lifelong NASCAR fan, with Dale Earnhardt and Carl Edwards among his favorite drivers. He had a deep appreciation for muscle cars, model trains, and electronics, often spending time tinkering and fixing things-a true jack of all trades. Thomas enjoyed the times he spent going to the fair's with Sherry. His friendships were deeply meaningful to him, and he formed lifelong bonds with those he considered family.

Thomas is survived by his loving family, including his son, CSM Shawn (Theresa) Carns of Fort Leavenworth, KS; his daughter, Heather (Andrew) Kendall of Franklinton, NC; and his cherished grandchildren, Megan, Matthew, Ethan, and A.J. He also leaves behind his best friends who were like a brother to him, Tim Swope of Niceville, FL, and Tom Chapin of Bunn, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandchild, J.B; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carl E. Smith and Janet L Smith.

Per Thomas's wishes, there will be no formal services, and cremation will take place.
