Pastor Donald Ray Engelhardt, 50, of Greensburg, formerly of Alverton, went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, Aug. 15, 2011, in Cedars Hospice of Monroeville, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Pastor Don was born Jan. 28, 1961, and raised in Alger, Ohio, a son of Hazel Joanne Ankerman Engelhardt, of Alger, Ohio, and the late Karl Benton Engelhardt. In addition to his father, Don was predeceased by his brother, Brian Engelhardt. In addition to his mother, Pastor Don is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Charlaine (Weyer) Engelhardt; his son, Seth Engelhardt and his wife, Rebekah, of Akron, Ohio; two daughters; Lauren (Engelhardt) and her husband, Charlie Simons, of Austintown, Ohio, and Rachel (Engelhardt) and her husband, Brad Kerstetter, of Louisville, Ohio; his granddaughter, Daphne Engelhardt, the daughter of Seth, and another granddaughter, due in November; his siblings, Curtis Engelhardt, of Alger, Ohio, Claire (Engelhardt) Harter, of Alger, Ohio, Fred Engelhardt, of Marietta, Ohio, and Charles Engelhardt, of Uniontown, Ohio; and his mother-in-law, Arlene Hopkins, of Ada, Ohio. Pastor Don was a graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School in McGuffey, Ohio, class of 1979. He then completed his ceramic engineering degree at Ohio State University in 1983. After a successful career as an engineer, God called him to become a pastor. He earned his Master of Divinity degree from Winebrenner Theological Seminary in Findlay, Ohio, in 1999. He was pastor of the following churches in both Ohio and Pennsylvania: Bethel United Brethren in Elmore, Ohio; Hilltop Chapel, Massillon, Ohio; and Center Bethel Church of God, Alverton. His love for the Lord and love for people was evident to all until the very end. Pastor Don's family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., 417 W. Pittsburgh St., Scottdale, where a brief funeral service will begin at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Shirer, pastor of Alverton United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the HANSON-NEELY FUNERAL HOME INC., 710 N. Front St., Alger, OH 45812. Additional visitation will be held Saturday morning, one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service in the Alger First United Methodist Church with Pastor Arnie Kaufman officiating and the Rev. Calvin Waugh co-officiating. Committal services and interment will follow in Preston Cemetery, Alger, Ohio.
