1939 - 2016

Francis J. "Bud" West, 77, of South Buffalo Township, passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, peacefully at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Francis was born in Wildwood Oct. 4, 1939. He was a son of the late Philomena (Sawicki) and John West. Bud graduated from Hampton High School in 1957 and was inducted into the Hampton High School Hall of Fame for his outstanding play as a defensive tackle for the school's football team. After high school, he received his Bachelor of Arts in industrial arts from California University in 1961. Bud taught industrial arts at Churchill and Woodland Hills School Districts for 34 years, retiring in 1994. Bud and his wife were faithful members of the Millerstown United Methodist Church in Fawn Township. Bud loved gardening, landscaping, woodworking, gourmet cooking and was an avid reader on politics, nutrition and mostly everything. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Janice (Adams) West; his two sons, Michael West, of Burlington, N.C., Jeffrey and Maryla West, of Newark Del. and Clearwater, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Ema and Jens West. He is also survived by his brother, William (Lillian Lodovico) West, of Hampton, Township; his nieces, Kimberly and Jay Deist and Linda and Dave Williams; his great nieces and nephews, Katlyn Deist, Dustin Deist, Michael and Jennifer Williams and DJ and Angie (Miller) "Zealyn" Williams. He is also survived by his great great-niece and nephew, Carley and Luke Williams.
Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., Freeport. Funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation with Rev. Josh Demi and Rev. Darlene Ryniec officiating in the funeral home. Burial services will be held in private for the family.
