John Maloney Obituary

John Brooks Maloney, 79, of North Huntingdon, died Sept. 16, 2025, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1945, in McKeesport, a son of the late Raymond and Ernesta Guardasoni Maloney. Prior to his retirement, John was employed by U.S. Steel National Works as a shipper and Camp Hill Steel as a relief foreman. Following retirement, John was employed as a bus driver for Norwin First Student, where he was known as "Papa John." He was an avid hunter, an all-around handyman, and a good neighbor. A proud veteran, John served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Raymond (Dorothy) Maloney and his sister Elaine (Jack) Churchfield. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Darla Thorne Maloney. He was the loving father to his son, David Maloney (Jessica); and two daughters, Lori Hinish (Bill) and Shelly Maloney. He was loved and will be missed by his grandchildren, Melissa Hamilton (Heath), Jennifer Walley (John), and Cooper Brooks Maloney; and great-grandchildren, Allie Mae and John William. Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2025, at JAMES W. SHIRLEY FUNERAL HOME, 176 Clay Pike, North Huntingdon. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2025, in the funeral home chapel, followed by interment in West Newton Cemetery. www.shirleyfuneralhome.com.
