Elizabeth Marie Taylor passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, four days shy of her 88th birthday. Liz was born Oct. 10, 1933, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late George DeRisi and Jennie Taormina DeRisi. After graduating from the University of Connecticut, Liz worked for Time Life in New York City before switching to a career as a primary school teacher. Following various years teaching in New York and California, Liz settled in Murrysville, where for several decades she guided students through their early years of school. After retiring from teaching, she continued to give to her community through her work with Meals on Wheels, the library and poll watching. Liz loved to travel, to read and, most of all, to spend time with her friends. Liz is survived by her nephew, Thomas John Urda; and her niece, Cynthia Urda Kassis and her husband, Jay Kassis and their children, Michael John Kassis and Emma Jean Kassis. Liz will be sorely missed by her family and her friends who she cherished greatly. The funeral service will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a donation to Wounded Warriors. Arrangements are by the LILLIS FUNERAL HOME, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, CT.

I was saddened to hear the news of our treasured neighbor, Liz Taylor. She was the first to take a chance and hire our boys to care for her lawn. This gave them an opportunity to earn and save money at a young age. We always enjoyed her conversation and her kindness over the years. She was a gem. Our deepest condolences. The Fritz Family from Heather Highlands Pa.
