James D. Chantz, 21, of Nampa, Idaho, died tragically and unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 17, 2021. He was born Oct. 3, 1999, in Houston, Texas, and was adopted by Dr. Daniel and Jean Chantz, of Allison Park. Jimmy was a charismatic child whose smile could light up a room. He enjoyed all sports, but ice hockey was his favorite. He loved Boy Scouts; from selling popcorn to the monthly camping trips. He looked forward to our family vacations to Camp Lutherlyn and visiting grandparents in Wisconsin. He was in his glory being able to take off on a bicycle with a fishing pole in his hand, going to Badger Boardwalk and Cramers' gas station to buy candy and snacks. When he came of age, he found a new passion: deer hunting. Jimmy struggled during his high school years attending Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Va., Hampton High School, and eventually graduating from Summit Academy, in Butler. He enlisted in the Army and served in the Airborne Infantry at Fort Benning and Fort Polk. He mentioned several times that he was most proud of himself during the period he served in the Army. He was working as a welder at the time of his death. In addition to his parents, James is survived by his five older siblings, all in the Greater Pittsburgh Area; Caroline (Brandon) Bukauskas, Melissa (Robert) Felton, and Jonathan, Emily (Harjot Pabla) and Samantha (Rich) Edmonds. He was "Uncle Jimmy" to Brody Bukauskas, Kai and Ricky Edmonds and Sienna and Harleen Pabla. Extended family include his beloved grandpa, J.F. Dale Berman, of Peshtigo, Wis.; uncles and aunts, Keith and Cathy Malmstadt, of Holland, Mich., Corrine Mayer, of Dousman, Wis., Shapour and Mary Arami, of St. Charles, Ill., Julie Chantz, of East Pittsburgh, and Cindy Chantz (Jack Carey), of Beaver. The family extends a special thank you to the Teachout-Evan's extended family and "Chantz's" Army buddies for treating him like family. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at KINGS FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 2841 Woodland Circle, in Allison Park. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2021, at Nativity Lutheran Church, 4517 Mt. Royal Blvd., Allison Park. The Rev. Jennifer Soltis will officiate. He will be laid to rest at Hampton Cemetery in Allison Park. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with James's family at www.kingfuneralhome.com
