Nils H. Ljungman

1934 - 2024

Nils H. Ljungman, 89, of Greensburg, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, after a recurrence of stomach cancer. He was born March 24, 1934, in Falkoping, Sweden, and grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y. After completing studies in electrical engineering, he returned to Sweden to work. He returned to the United States in 1961 and taught at Villanova University. After studying law, he moved to Western Pennsylvania to work for the patent department of Westinghouse. He spoke several languages and built his own law practice with European companies as clients. He wanted to live to be 100 and die working. He didn't make it to 100, but he did continue his business until the end. He enjoyed traveling, and over the years visited Haiti, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico, many parts of Southeast Asia, and many European countries. He had an active life and enjoyed swimming and skiing. Keeping in touch with friends and family was an important part of his life. He would call family and many friends every week or two, to see how they were doing and share each other's lives. He is survived by his son, Tom Ljungman (Bobbie); daughter, Christina Richards (Paul); two grandchildren, Tommy Richards and Chris Richards; his brother, Henry Ljungman (Susanne), of Sweden; and many Swedish relatives. Family and friends will be received from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at BARNHART FUNERAL HOME, 505 E. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg.
