Rajdeep S. Sandhu

Rajdeep Singh Sandhu, 51, passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 14, 2021, in Barrington, R.I. Raj, born May 14, 1970, in Nairobi, Kenya, was the youngest child of Amarjit Singh Sandhu and Gurmit Kaur Sandhu. He came to the United States in 1987 after the untimely death of his father. Raj valued education and hard work. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. His surgical residency was served at the University of Nebraska, followed by a fellowship in vascular surgery at Case Western, and then a subspecialty fellowship in endovascular surgery in Sweden. He further received a master of medical management degree at Carnegie Mellon University. Raj was a highly-skilled vascular surgeon and was the medical director of the Intensive Care Unit and chief of vascular surgery at Heritage Valley Health System in Southwestern Pennsylvania. He served his patients and community tirelessly and had deep roots in Pittsburgh. Most recently, he transitioned to the position of director of medical affairs, surgery at Becton Dickinson in Rhode Island. His work was his passion until he married Jaspal (Jess) Singh on Dec. 31, 2016. They welcomed their beautiful daughter, Sophie, and son, Aiden, on July 24, 2018 and Feb. 11, 2020, respectively. His family was the center of his world; Jess, Sophie and Aiden filled Raj's life with love, purpose and pride. Raj was a devoted father, loving husband, caring son, beloved brother, uncle extraordinaire and a loyal friend. He had a wicked sense of humor despite the many adversities he faced and an uncanny ability to relate to anyone, patients or otherwise. He touched and helped many people. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Gurmit; his wife, Jess; young children, Sophie and Aiden; his older brother, Jas and wife, Corrie; his older sister, Anita and husband, Michael; niece, Ariel; and nephews, Jehan, Nevan and Gavin. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 21, at the COPELAND FUNERAL HOME, 702 Beaver St., Sewickley. Service and cremation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at the BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2630 West Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15216. There will also be a prayer service and an early supper at the Sikh Temple at 4407 McKenzie Drive, Monroeville, PA 15146, following the funeral. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
