Dear Macek Family: In 1961 Mrs. Macek was our 1st grade teacher. I have always remembered her for the kindness, love and guidance she shared with us. Nobody really ever got in trouble for throwing the paste on the way too high for her to reach. And, yes, my sister and I [twins] actually won one of the prized, hatched ducklings. I still remember walking home with that little guy in the shoe box. Please know, your Mom, Wife and Relative was a very special person in my family's heart & life and all the other children who were privileged to have her as their teacher. I will never forget Mrs. Macek and look forward to hearing her read to us again when we meet on the other side. Sincerely,
Karen Almasy Brown, Charlotte, NC

Dear Macek Family,
I had the privilege of working with Kay for just 2 years at Forbes. I was transferred there after my building(Shenandoah) was closed in 2008.
She was a remarkable teacher and person. She truly had the gift to make all around her feel welcome and special whether a student or newly transferred teacher(such as myself). I will miss her dearly-we shared a daily laugh as we passed each other in the hall, shared a lunch period together or an occasional after- work beverage.
Her spirit will live on in our hearts and the halls of Forbes.
May you find peace in knowing she was so well loved as Kay, the friend/colleague,and Mrs. Macek ,the teacher to many youngsters.

Please know that your loss is our loss too. We have lost a friend and a mentor who taught us never to accept less than the best in education and in life. She loved our children whether good or bad and attempted to train them in a way that Jesus called her to do. Being a teacher was truly a life's calling for Kay. We will miss her encouragement on this earth but please know that our family (as well as scores of other people), will carry her with us always because our lives are richer for having been touched by her.
"To teach is to touch the future forever," and we thank you for sharing your wife, mother, grandmother, relative and friend Kay with us and our future.
With our deepest sympathy,

Ken and Family, I was saddened to hear about the loss of Kay. She was a role model for me whenever I began to teach at Penn Hills and always a friend when I needed one. I'll always smile whenever I remember chasing those "escaped" ducklings of hers through the school every morning. Her passing will certainly create a hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her. You have my sincere condolences. Jackie Kruzic, PHSD
