Cicely Marie (Nicely) Monsour, 92, of Greensburg, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2015, at UPMC East surrounded by her loving family. Born June 9, 1923, in Greensburg, she was a daughter of the late George Eisamen Nicely and Cicely Long Nicely, who were from Greensburg and Ligonier. Mrs. Monsour was the loving wife to the late Dr. Roy Charles Monsour, a family physician in Westmoreland County. She was the last surviving sister of her immediate family. Siblings included the late George E. Nicely Jr., Olga Nicely and Jane B. Woodruff. She loved and is survived by three daughters, Michel Monsour Franklin, of Greensburg, Dr. Miroya Monsour Stabile, of Shadyside, and Cicely Nafeli Monsour, of Greensburg; a son-in-law, Mr. Merrill Stabile, of Shadyside; and grandchildren, Roy Michael Bodnar, of Greensburg, Cicely Rose Gilbert, of Las Vegas, Nev., Alexandra Michel Gilbert Maglicco, of Virginia Beach, Va., and twins, Alexander Charles and John Clarkson Stabile, of Shadyside. She is also survived by her granddaughter-in-law, Natalie Rygelski Bodnar; grandson-in-law, Michael Maglicco; and by her daughter, Cicely "Missy" Monsour's partner, Michael Kozusko. Mrs. Monsour's family, were descendants of the George Nicely family of Ligonier, Swiss settlers who pioneered the area in the early 1700s, where one Nicely ancestor, Jacob Nicely, was kidnapped by Native Americans and became part of the Seneca Tribe. She was an active member of the Phoebe Bayard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Cicely graduated from St. Benedict's grade school in Greensburg and earned a full scholarship to Seton Hill Academy for Women. She then attended Margaret Morrison College, part of Carnegie Tech, now CMU (during wartime), where she graduated with a degree in interior and fashion design in 1945. She was an energetic and loved member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She had many friends and was active in several philanthropic and medical organizations. She was involved with the Monsour Medical Center Auxiliary in dedication to her husband where she spent many hours volunteering. She was on the board of the Westmoreland Choral Society and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Heart Association and chaired and worked on the committee for several of their events. She was also involved with the Westmoreland County Medical Auxiliary. She and her late husband, Dr. Roy were honored with the "Heart of Westmoreland" Award given by the Western Pennsylvania Heart Association in 2000. She also was involved with the Pittsburgh Opera Association since she was 35 years old. She co-chaired The Diamond Horseshoe Ball benefitting Pittsburgh Opera several times, and did much charity work. A warm, joyful and loving person, she brightened the lives of everyone she encountered.

Aunt Cicely will be missed. I will always remember her as the heart of family gatherings; the great cook; her joyful and sharp whit bringing charm to any moment spent with her; her constant class coupled with the looks that she dolled out to let you know exactly where she stood. She was truly a light that shone bright in our family and it will certainly be missing in each new day.
