Harrison Baker Obituary

Harrison Stuart Baker, 89, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2005. He was born June 27, 1916, in Richlands, Va., to Katherine Spratt and Charles Baker and grew up in Chicago. Mr. Baker studied physics and political science at the University of Chicago and during World War II was a captain with the 484th Radar Bomb Group in the Army Air Forces, based in Italy. His vocation for 40 years, with his wife working at his side, was as president of The Ticker Tape Investment Adviser, following NYSE-listed stocks. His was the last paper ticker tape machine operation in the world. Harrison and Cathryn Williams Baker raised their family in the Morgan Park-Beverly Hills area of Chicago. They were active in community affairs, including as founding members of the Beverly Historical Society and the Beverly Art Center; were members of the Beverly Area Planning Association and the Chicago Area Theater Organ Enthusiasts, and attended Bethany Union Church. In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, he is survived by six children, three sons-in-law and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Shadyside Presbyterian Church.
