Irene "Reenie" Carte Pickens, 83, of Sewickley, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, surrounded by her family. Irene is survived by her children, James Michael Pickens, Susan (Daniel) Cardone, and Patricia (Mark) Sidman; her grandchildren, Elsa Marie Pickens, James Henry Pickens, Christopher Pickens, Janet Pickens, Margot Sidman, Maria Cardone, Alexander Sidman, and Christa (Dan Tallarico) Cardone; and her siblings, Dr. Estol Carte, Marie (Paul) Hopper, and Elizabeth Keene. She is predeceased by her husband, Billy Pickens. Irene was born July 11, 1933, in St. Albans, W.V. She is an alumna of Saint Albans High School and West Virginia University. Irene was a lifelong learner, encouraging and supporting the education of others, especially her grandchildren. She donated her time to community organizations, including Meals on Wheels, and teaching English as a second language.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 405 B St., St. Albans, WV 25177.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Meals on Wheels of Southwestern PA, or the American Heart Association. Arrangements by DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME INC.

It has taken me this long to write as I was trying to find your address to Send you a card.

Your mother was a delightful Lady, and while I was only lucky enough to know her a short time over in personal care at Masonic and my visits over there 3 or 4 times a week or as much as my health permitted

It was also great getting to know you the few times we spent talking, I am just sorry that our visits seemed to be at different times the past few weeks I was over there
