John Kacsan Obituary

John Paul "Jay" Kacsan, 89, of North Versailles, died Sunday, June 4, 2006, at his residence. He was born March 31, 1917, in McKeesport to the late John and Mary Szpakowska (Kadja) Kacsan and also was predeceased by sister Mary Burchell and brother Frank Kacsan. Mr. Kacsan was the national historian and honorary past national commandant of the Marine Corps League and was named National Marine of the Year in 1991. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a retired supervisor from U.S. Steel's National Tube Works. Mr. Kacsan was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Church, East McKeesport; White Oak American Legion Post 701; VFW Post 514; the Eleventh Ward Club, Christy Park; Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, and the Marine Corps Coordinating Council at the Navy and Marine Corps Center, North Versailles. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy F. Stasko Kacsan; son, Col. John Paul Kacsan Jr. of Florida; daughters, Jane Thomas, of New Jersey, Paula M. Sanner, of North Huntingdon, and Marsha A. Kacsan, of Avondale; grandchildren, Christopher Thomas, Brian and Travis Kacsan and Joshua and Holley Sanner; brother, Mike Kacsan, of North Versailles, and nieces and nephews. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME INC., 2703 O'Neil Blvd, McKeesport. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:15 p.m. Saturday in St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Entombment with military honors will follow in New St. Joseph Cemetery. www.jaycox-jaworskifh.com.
