Lillian (Taylor) Franz, 96, of Masonic Village in Sewickley, formerly of Dormont, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, after a short illness. Born Dec. 5, 1914, in Aspinwall, she was the only child of Stanley and Lillian (Henninger) Taylor. At age 2 her family moved to a newly built home on Voelkel Avenue in Dormont. She was a 1934 graduate of Dormont High School and continued her studies at Pennsylvania College for Women (Now Chatham University) graduating cum laude in 1938. She married William H. Franz, of Dormont, in April of 1942 at Fort Dix, N.J., prior to him shipping out in World War II. When Bill was captured and a prisoner of war, she became active in the American Red Cross. She worked at Carnegie Mellon University in the registrar's office until she retired in 1982. Known for her kindness curiosity and thoughtfulness, she always sent notes and cards to family and friends. Lillian and Bill, who passed away in November of 1992, were very active at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Beechview as Sunday School Teachers and other activities. She was a loving and cherished aunt of Ann (Werner) Rieve, of Severn, Md., Peggy Franz (Ed) Page, of Washington, Pa., R. John (Roberta) Franz, of West Newton, Paula Franz (Thomas) Defelice, of Bethel Park and the late Jason William Franz; and great-aunt of Robert, Justin, Jacob, Becky, RJ, Stephanie, Tony and Angelina. Friends will be welcomed from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon. Service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
