Matthew Coppola Obituary

Matthew J. "Matt" Coppola Jr., 85, of Ross Township, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015. He was the beloved husband of the late Constance L. "Connie" Coppola; loving father of Dr. Matthew (Candy) Coppola III, Anthony Coppola, Dr. Gregory (Michelle) Coppola, Darlene Buechel, Connie (Wesley) Bain and Lisa (David) Coppola Kilpatrick; brother of Jack Coppola; grandfather of 21; and great-grandfather of seven. Matt's true love was preparing and sharing Italian meals with his family, golfing with family and friends, walking the mall with his grandchildren, continuously reading health related articles and inspiring biographies. He was a member of the St. Sebastian Church Choir and Show group, a proud member of the North Hills Harmony Line Chorus, where he sang barbershop music, and was a founding member of the SPEBSQSA barbershop organization (Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America), North Hills. In addition, his quartet, "The Kids of the 30's," performed locally for more than 40 years. He received both his undergraduate and physical therapy degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and was a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the H.P. BRANDT FUNERAL HOME INC., 1032 Perry Highway, Ross Township, 412-364-4444. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Sebastian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163, 1-800-344-4867.
