Michael Basara, 90, of Export, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at his home. He was born Nov. 25, 1922, in Export, a son of the late Melo and Mary (Tomick) Basara. Mike was a retired employee of the former Westinghouse Airbrake. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of St. Nicholas Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church in Monroeville, Loyal Order of the Moose No. 234, Export, and the Free and Accepted Masons lodge. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by siblings, Lillian Basara, Mildred Bobich, Pete Basara, Paul Basara, Nick Basara and Katherine Basara. He is survived by his loving brother, Eli Basara, of North Huntingdon; and many nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the WOLFE-VON GEIS FUNERAL HOME INC., 5701 Lincoln Ave., Export, 724-327-1400, where services will begin 10:30 a.m. Friday, with the Very Rev. D.C. Malich officiating. Interment, with military honors accorded by the Greensburg V.F.W. Post 33 Honor Guard, will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Export.
