Priscilla Bayer

Priscilla Bayer, 68, of Peters, passed into the arms of our Lord on Wednesday, June 11, 2008, after a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer. Priscilla loved caring for infants and small children and was a foster mother for 62 babies, followed by more than 1,000 hours as a volunteer at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she again rocked and fed babies. She was a volunteer at the American Cancer Society, Washington, Pa., and for many years, before Christmas, cleaned and prepared hundreds of used baby dolls for distribution at Washington Christian Outreach. Priscilla was recognized for her volunteerism, having received the McMurray Rotary Club's Paul Harris Fellow Award and the Peters Township Character Counts Recognition Award and was a finalist in the 2004 Citizen of the Year program sponsored by The Almanac. She also received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition and was a 2004 Rose Day honoree of the Zonta Club of Washington County. Priscilla was an active member of St. Benedict the Abbot Church, having served in many capacities over the last 33 years, most recently as a lector and host and facilitator of the Tuesday Evening Faith Sharing Group. She was a member of the Pittsburgh Cursillo Movement. Beloved wife of 49 years of Daniel A. Bayer. Loving mother of Donald (Beverly) Bayer, of Herndon, Va.; Dennis (Marilyn) Bayer, of Venetia; Janet (Joseph) Zegarelli, of Erie, and Leigh (Eric) Shirley, of Harrisburg. Cherished grandmother of Emily, Anna, Olivia and Lindsay Bayer; Ellen Martin; Hogan, Ian and Roman Zegarelli, and Daniel and Lauren Shirley. Sister of Nancy (James) Grubb, of Beaver, and James (Cathy) Castellan, of Hanover, Md.
