Our Deepest Sympathy To all the Negri family,
Dear Donna, Joe, Norie and family.
May God give you all the strength to get through this very sad time, Bobby is now at peace, and his parents are waiting with open arms for him. We all grew up together, our families were friends and that was very special to all of us from Norton and Dilworth streets.
The last time I saw Bobby was at a South Hill reunion, When I went over to greet him he got up from the piano and hugged me , we had not seen each other in many years, when he was ready to leave, he went out to get Donna who came to pick him up, She was the love of his life. Donna,God be with you and all of your family , and May Bobby rest in peace.

I will never forget Bobby giving me my start when I was 11 years old. I sat in with his trio at the Holiday Inn. I played "Watch What Happens" and Here's That Rainy Day". He was so friendly and supportive. He was the first one to tell his brother Joe about me. So, thank you, Bobby for being one of my early mentors. My heartfelt sympathy to the Negri family with all love and respect.

Dear Donna:
My deepest sympathy: Bobby was a dear friend and fellow musician for almost 60 years. I first played with Bobby on Ham Whtilinger's band and enjoyed the the many "after the gig" visits to the musician's union club. We will all miss Bobby but know he will be a welcome addition the that "great jazz band up above"

Joe, I am very sorry to hear of Bobby's passing. Please accept my condolences. Much time has fleetingly gone by but I have not forgotten. You and Bobby provided me with a treasured lifetime memory. My jazz concert in the late 40's would not have been successful without the organizational support and artistry offered by both of you. I had the pleasure of meeting Bobby "Pop" a few times before he passed. Even though he was ill at the time, he acknowledged me and sang me "Irish Eyes". I was truly honored and will always remember that moment. The Negri family are truly amazing people and my prayers and thoughts are with all of you. Love to all.

To the entire Negri family,

I wish to express my sincerest condolences on the loss of Bobby. The younger generation of pianists in this town have no idea that if Bobby and many of the other musicians that stuck around had left Pittsburgh, that there might not have been a jazz scene here with the rich heritage that we enjoy today. Bobby was a big part of the oral tradition passed down to me and others. There were never formal lessons or even a lot of talking about it. Bobby lived and played it with his entire being. He swung like nobody I ever heard. And either you got it or you didn't. I hope we can do him justice and continue passing it down. I know Bobby, Sandy, Bos, Jimmy and all of our other brothers and sisters in jazz who have moved on, are making some beautiful music together again.

Dear Negri Family,

I learned that Bobby was ill quite sometime ago by a fellow Pittsburgh musician. I will always remember with great fondness of the times I played with Bobby at the Gas Light in Shadyside years ago. I was just a kid and Bobby was a great mentor and inspiration to me. Although I haven't seen Bobby in years I know I will always miss his personality and his musicianship. My God bless his soul for all eternity and also bring you comfort at this time of your great loss.

Dear Negri Family,
I was so sorry to hear of Bobby's passing. He was such a wonderful soft spoken man, always, supportive of young musicians. I remember practicing for my vocal jury at your house with Roberta at the piano. I felt such caring support. I was fortunate to hear him play many times in and around Pittsburgh. He always managed to keep playing outstanding jazz even while talking to me. He was so proud of his family.

My love and prayers to all of you.

Dearest Donna & the Negri family,
We wish to send our sincere condolences at this time of sorrow and loss. Bobby was a wonderful man and musician that we will all miss. He and Sandy Staley are making music together again now. She loved him so much, as we all did. She would tell me of their musical adventures and there were so many funny stories. They were quite a musical team. I know you did everything for your husband and gave him the very best of care.
Our deepest sympathy to you and your family.
Sending love and prayers,

February 16, 2010

To all the family, Bobby, quite a man that will live on through his music that he shared with all of us over the years to his "special" ways of caring for his friends and family. I will always remember how safe I felt when I was out on the town and always I'd pick the place that Bobbi was playing -- he always made sure my escort knew that he was looking out for me and that he expected that I be treated with respect and that I would get home safely. My personal guardian angel. Musically Bobbi was such apart of our family, a best friend to Jimmy Blakemore and as years past a father in law to our Brother Bill, The memories -- the love for his family and the music. How blessed we all are to have known him. Bobby will be missed, but will always remain in our hearts. Love and Blessings from afar, Carol (Kuhn) and Bob Gager

Bobby was a truly inspired pianist, and a really great guy. It seems like just a couple of years ago when he regaled audiences at places like the Top Shelf II, accompanying Sandy Staley. Hard to believe that they're both gone now --- I'm sure there is some sweet music being played in another sphere! My sincere condolences to your family and many friends and fans... -- Scott Elias (Orlando, FL)
