Stephen Mackin Obituary

Stephen P. Mackin, 85, formerly of Pittsburgh and Boynton Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, May 5, 2009, in Bethesda, Md. Beloved husband of Ann (McGuire) Mackin; loving father of Stephen Jr., Patrick, William and Gary Mackin; son of the late Stephen and Nora (Welsh) Mackin; brother of the late John and James Mackin; also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Steve graduated from Central Catholic High School and received a BS degree from Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon) University. He was a World War II veteran of the Coast Guard from 1943 to 1946 and received a Purple Heart. He was an architect and general contractor, an avid golfer and served as president of Edgewood Country Club from 1976 to 1978. Steve also volunteered his time to the community by coaching the girls basketball team for St. Rosalia High School for many years. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the EDWARD P. KANAI FUNERAL HOME, 500 Greenfield Ave. Funeral at 11:30 a.m. Saturday followed by Funeral Mass at noon in St. Rosalia Church.
