William Brussalis Obituary

William "Bill" Brussalis, 80, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at his daughter, Kelly's, home in Spotsylvania, Va. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Dian Brussalis; and his sister, Dian Hahn. He leaves his beloved wife of 49 years, Sue; his wonderful children, Chris (Christina) Brussalis, Kelly (Tony) Naccarato, Stacy (Bob) Adduci and Tara (Tony) Bottino; and his cherished grandchildren, Jesse, Zac, Anthony, Kayla, Riley, Nicholas, Alexander, Lucas, Katherine, Andrew, Dominic and Jake. Bill graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University) with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in mechanical engineering. He spent most of his professional career at Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he managed a group specializing in stress analysis. Bill patented technology for nuclear reactors and nuclear submarines. Bill was a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Westinghouse Service Uniting Retired Employees (SURE). Active in his community, Bill also served on the board of the Municipal Authority of Forward Township and coached wrestling for Elizabeth Forward Athletic Association and girls' softball for the Forward Township Athletic Association. Bill enjoyed serving as a judge for St. Michael's School science fairs and volunteered as an income tax preparer for senior citizens. When Bill retired, he devoted his time to the real love of his life, his farm in Forward Township, where he planted hundreds of fruit trees and raised cows and sheep. Always a scientist and interested in research, Bill was a participant in studies at the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29th, at the STEPHEN D. SLATER FUNERAL HOME, 1701 State Route 51, Jefferson Hills. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30th, at Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home. Please send condolences to http://www.stephendslater.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of Pittsburgh, Alzheimer Disease Research Center, 200 Lothrop St., Pittsburgh, PA 15213-2582.
